We checked out the Highlander, and it had a fair amount of scratches on it, especially on the rear passenger-side door and the front headlight. The leather was very soft and in great shape. Wife drove it and she liked it. The ventilated seats were very nice. Dealer offered $30K OTD for it, including $3.5K for the Traverse.
I'm hoping to check out the MDX tomorrow.

I heard the 2019 Traverse is pretty awesome.
It's a good price.

I know a few people and families that do this, they have freely admitted that they have zero savings and a minimal retirement account. I'm continually baffled why people prioritize stuff over a future but whatever.
While I wouldn't really lump the house in there, we all probably have that same thing going, the $45k in student loan and $15k in credit card is ridiculous. I'm not even sure what constitutes the other $100k.

What year is the traverse? I'd sell that sucker privately and get double for it.

You shouldn't go under 7k on trade

Null and proud of it
Just tell them it's worth 10K!!! Go down by the hundred only... Be a dick!!!
Seriously, look for good deals, and know (act like) what you're talking about...
They'll surely not appriciate this...

You need to do a better job haggling. You can score more money on your trade, guaranteed. They’re bending you over and you’re taking it without much fight.

Dealership doesn’t know ac is leaking... unless you told them. They probably don’t know about the engine mount either... unless you told them. The transmission they can probably feel if it’s that bad, but, I’d still be fighting tooth and nail.

Just because the shop gave you bill for +$6k to fix the traverse
Doesn't mean it costs $6k to fix it
It probably costs $300 to fix it.
Don't get fucked on trade
I see many '10 Traverses selling in the 10k range
I think that's too much.. figure the dealership will sell it for 8 or 9k at least
Then figure that they want to make their nut and will invest in doing so or send that bitch to auction
Don't give them too much margin. Otherwise your a Class A ninny. $7k or bust.

Agreed with Majofo on all counts. Don’t be a sucker.
Whats that saying? A fool and his money are soon parted?

That said, I would hold tight on at least $6k if that's the private sale price. They aren't going to sell this thing anyway, it'll go straight to auction, and if they want to move this MDX that has been sitting on the lot for 6 months, they'll cave to $3k extra.

You guys need to chill. That's just what the dealer offered. It's not difficult to raise a trade-in offer from stupid to merely unreasonable.

I checked out the MDX.
It. WAS. PERFECT.
No scratches on the outside that I can't detail out. Tires new. Leather was soft as hell. Drove it and loved it. The dual-source DVD player was awesome as well.
They offered a lot more for the Traverse than other places too. OTD price was cheaper on initial go-around than the Highlander.
Now it's time to lay down the hammer.
