hANDYcaptd's 2011 Volkswagen GTI

Finally pulled the trigger on a car I've drooled over for a while now.

Picked it up today and it feels awesome to own my very first car!

Here's a quick shot of it when I got it home. You can see it's predecessor parked behind. Had my TL for a little over 4 trouble free years. For that, I will miss it. It had a great balance of sport and luxury.

I won't be missing that slushbox it had though.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/56418602@N05/5944479415/" title="0716111749-00 by handycaptd, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6125/5944479415_959fe0d695_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="0716111749-00"></a>

Had lots going on today but I will definitely take more pics tomorrow!

Thanks! Its a 6MT. My first manual car, so I'm still getting used to having three pedals. But that will come with time.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

As far as modding goes, nothing in the near future. One of my buddies is planning on getting an MK5 and modding, so I'm sure that mod bug will bite me when he gets it.

You got the right gearbox. I've driven GTI 6MT many times, and it's definitely one of the easiest manual cars to drive smooth and fast.

You can make the car so much faster with couple mods, you should definitely do it.

This seems like a great forum for your car. I've been lurking for awhile. Have fun man! You'll love it!

6MT and a 4 door. Perfect combo right there.

I've also been drooling over it lately.

Non autobahn package, right?

What was the price before TTL, if you don't mind me asking?

Congrats! I've seriously been lusting over this car for the past few weeks. Something I'll look into when my TL and I depart. How does it drive? Probably a dumb question...

wow dude, you took my car!!
Haha congrats!

I bookmarked quite a few threads on here that had some nice discussions about driving manual cars, for when i get my first manual i'll be re-reading those.

Its basically terry and southernboy that provide a lot of knowledge on how to drive manuals.

Thanks, I have heard the same thing about this manual and it sure seems that way.

I'll probably go Stage 1 in a year and enjoy it for a while. I've been lurking on that forum as well. They seem very helpful over there.

That great to hear! You drive almost as much as I will. I'll put about 25k/yr on it.

Yep, this is just the Sunroof package. Its a great value IMO, for a sunroof, touch screen media, and multifunction steering wheel.

I got it for 25.5k (about $2100 under sticker, $600 under invoice).

I will definitely be sticking around and updating .

I lost the urge to mod my TL so I've been in Car Talk a lot more recently. Plus the TL is staying in the family, so if anything goes wrong, 2G section is just a click away.

I think you know the answer to that.

Yep, sunroof package.

Don't worry, you'll have a GTI one day. Come to the east coast, and I'll let you take it for a spin!

ohh dont leave out golfmkv.com

THe cars are similar enough that you will see a lot of info about the cars there too.

And if you plan on autocrossing, that site i believe has soo much more info in their autocross/track section

I've been a lurker there too on both sites.

I test drove the DSG and it was pretty impressive, for about a few rows through the gears. I thought about getting it, since I drive in heavy traffic sometimes.

But I figured its now or never to get a manual car. I'm going to be keeping it for a while too.

Just curious for all the manual drivers, how long was it before it became second nature for you?

I still have to think about shifting so I can't enjoy any of the fancy electronics!

Nice, In was on the fence about a GTI recently. Love the interlagos interior. In the end it wasn't big enough to fit my golf (figures, hehe) bag and other stuff, so I didn't end up getting one. congrats!

Even doing it yourself, the DSG fluid change is expensive. Damn German cars and their insistence on very specific (pricey) fluids.

Ive been driving manuals for about 6 years now. Im always looking for ways to improve my driving technique.

But, it took me an afternoon to get comfortable with it (brother tossed me the keys on the drive from FL to NY, so I had no choice but to get comfortable with it).

I still remember the day I first learned how to drive a manual car.... I learned in using my friend's brand new 2005 Mustang GT.... God that car was hard to drive for a first timer....

I thought I got a little comfortable driving it so me and my friend took it out to the street, then I stalled it twice in a row at the huge intersection..... I frantically told my friend "I CAN'T DO IT. YOU DO IT". There were sooo many behind ours and they weren't even mad. The car still had a dealer plate, so I guess they figured it's the noobs... lol People were just laughing at us for good 5 seconds.

Btw, my friend stalled it right after we switched too......

I'll never forget the night I bought my '88 CRX Si in '96 and had to drive it home with my father following behind me. Even though I had driven my friends' manual cars quite a few times, being alone while driving a manual on a new to me car with my father trailing me was both incredible exciting and unbelieveably frightening!
