Guys I need help and opinions on this - a little long
So I've talked to this guy a couple times now and I'm a little concerend. For those that don't know, my car is for sale. I've heard of people trying to steal cars and car parts this way so I want your opinions. I received the following emails from him.
I'm a little leery on this. The guy doesn't seem to ask the right questions and what "information" about me did he forward to his "financial institution"? I never gave him any.
Should I email him back and ask him some questions or should I completely ignore him? Obviously I want to sell the car, I just don't want it stolen or anything from it stolen.
What do you think?

The car looks exactly the same now as it does in the pics except there’s no rims, it’s sitting on the stock wheels now. The interior is the same except no XM tuner and no sub/amp anymore (see pic-taken 3 nights ago). Those items I’m keeping. Let me know if you want to know more.
Thanks,
Chris
Oh, PS: The cold air intake is no longer on it either. I put the stock airbox back on with a K&N filter. It will supposedly yield similar if not the same hp gains.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for getting back with me. If you are seriously interested in purchasing it, you need to know that the car is not perfect. It’s got some door dings in it along with some scratches and small rock chips on the front end. Also, what state do you live in? How do you plan to transport it? Please let me know as much information as you can as the car is on consignment at the moment and not in my possession. Obviously since it’s my car I can go pick it up at any time however, I do need to know in advance.
Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris,
Thanks for your prompt and positive reply. However,I have forwarded your information to my Financial Instituttion for them to be able to release the fund to you, due to time constraint on the fact that we are running short of time. I'm delighted to tell you that I appreciate your concern and has commended your vehicle with full interest, am willing to carry on with this transaction, You are hereby inform that payment will get to you in an amount of $22,000 which cover's the cost of your vehicle and amount for shipment.I have also instructed my Financial Instituttion to release the fund. So you are required to deduct the cost of your vehicle $13,500 when payment gets to you and refund balance of $8,500 to our agent ( the shipper ) for him to be able to offset shipping payment, tax charges and other cosmetic repair costs.
After payment has reached you and balance sent to shipper, the shiper's agent will come for inspection, pick up of vehicle & signing of title papers, make some cosmetic touches and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to the approve destination.
Please confirm your acceptance so that the finance institute will contact you immediately.

just ignore it. if scammers weren't so good at what they do, there would be alot less scammers. i doubt the person running the scam will give you any information that would give himself up.

No one in their right mind ever says "kindly."
Sucks. Are you driving around with a for sale sign? If nothing else, write your phone number in large letters on the sign. Pisses me off when I see a nice car for sale on the road but cant read the lettering.

Actually, I never drive it with the for sale signs in the window. I read a really funny email once about a guy that did that and pissed someone off. The guy he pissed off wrote down the phone number of the car for sale and called him to harass and humor himself every so often. It was pretty funny but I'm aware that I can be an ass from time to time and karma's a bitch.

I could tell it's a scam from his first reply. I can recognize these from a mile away with my eyes closed these days.

to someone just getting in on the online sales bandwagon it can be tough to spot scammers. *always* insist on waiting for checks to clear if you have any doubts.
there are many similar scams out there. the biggest is that you get an email from someone saying they need your help cashing a check since they live in uganda, china, nepal, etc. you cash a check and they give you a fee for helping and you send them the remainder. well surprise surprise the check is fake and you've just sent them 7, 8, 9 grand out of your own pocket because you now have a negative balance in your bank account due to a bounced fake check.
