Not a fan of Porsche/Fords or 4 doors. My plan for now is to wait..The 2012 GT-R should hit the market in Feb 2011..there will be left over 2011 models available (not many) I know..The C7 is rumored for 2012. I'm banking (pun) on left overs..After a 1100 mile road trip in the vette last week end I now leaning towards the Carbon Z...Thanks for the inputs and I will update

If you're into modding, the Z06 can be a monster. So can the GTR, but Z06 parts are way cheaper if you have a warranty issue.

Im trying to convince the wife to let me drop the 60k + on that. I may hold on to the TL another year or 2 and see if i can pick up one of these monsters slightly used for like 40k.

Typical Forum Thread.

OP - Here are my choices. Zo6 or GTR. Which do you like better?

Posters - You should buy a CTS-V.

If you can wait, go for the '12 GT-R its supposed to be vastly improved from what I read. Much better driving experience.

Have been driving my 10 GT-R for about 2 months. Not daily but I have put about 1800 miles on it. Weather has been beautiful and I have been on a couple all-day drives.

Coming from an 08 M3, I have some opinions about the GT-R

Acceleration is totally intoxicating. I take friends for rides ( including those with C6 Z's) and they can't believe that such a big heavy car gets up and goes so quickly. I would love to ride in an AMS or Switzer car just to feel how it would feel to have twice the HP.

Grip in the twisties is also amazing but i really feel my M3 had a much better steering feel, the best of any car I have driven. Transmission in the GT-R is a strange animal when driven in auto. I can be going 70 mph, slow to a stop and it will stay in 6th until under 30 and then I can feel it shift 5-4-3-2 and 1 right as I stop. I guess this helps with fuel economy (like I care) because it upshifts quickly as I accelerate. Thankfully all this can be controlled by putting the car in manual or auto-R. Transmission is awesome when driven in manual, especially in R. When pushed, the car comes alive but feels a bit heavy when putting around.

Could I have had a Z-06? Sure. If I wanted to push it, I could have had a ZR-1. I just had the opportunity to purchase the GT-R for a good price so I figured i'd try it. Vettes are plentiful around here and I just wanted something different. I may look like a 38 YO white DB driving it but I don't care. It's fun.

As for a DD I say no. Even in comfort mode, it just rides too rough when the roads get bad. The bridge from my house to NOLA is 24 miles and has joints in the bridge about every 150 feet or so. BUMP BUMP BUMP for 24 miles. Would I want to do this every day? NO WAY! If you find one to test drive, make sure you drive it on a bumpy road.
Also the road noise is kind of loud, maybe dropping the runflats would help with this.

The maintenance expense I am aware and prepared for. I may do some of this myself. Brakes can't be that hard, they are meant to be changed quickly. Still the rotors are $1k each from a discount nissan dealer on the net. I do quite well financially but I really wouldn't to pay for this kind of maintenance DD often. I'll probably drive this car around 8k miles per year. The aftermarket for the GT-R is growing quickly and prices for maintenace will go down accordingly but will still be $$.

Last but not least, would you want to daily drive a car that has a page like this in the service log?

Once again there are other options. The AP racing J hooks can be had for half the price, just have to use the stock hats.

I'd go with the carbon packaged Z06, I'm not a fan of the GTR. Plus I'd bet the Z06 would be more fun to drive,

I know I seriously looked at the GTR and test drove it twice. I had even filled out a good bit of paperwork....but 2 things kept making me re-think it and eventually decide against it.

1. The crazy maintenance prices. $200 oil changes. $8k brakes. Etc. Add in that only certain Nissan dealerships have a trained tech and equipment makes it even worse. The local Nissan dealer here shared the tech with several other dealerships and he would likely only be available with 2 WEEKS advanced notice required of any maintenance, etc. Ridiculous. Add in relatively few aftermarket maintenance items available also was concerning (though that is improving).

2. Launch control. I could never get past the craziness that they would build a car with LC...and then have people with numerous reports of difficulty in warranty repair, etc. if there was proof that it was LCed. Where is the sense in that?

I ultimately decided on a CTS-V -- it is definitely a sleeper. Faster than almost anything on the road (within reason, of course) with 4 doors and a nice interior. For me, it was the ultimate combination of speed and luxury. It is perfectly suited as a DD.

Z06 won 2013 3LZ...FWIW...GT-R no go..Nissan dealers consider 1K off MSRP a deal...go figure...A used one was not a option for me...

Vettes are plentiful EVERYWHERE. Even ZR1s will never get the attention of, lets just say, a standard 911 or GTR. Perfect example is Viper vs Corvette. Same stats, near the same price but the Viper has the exotic factor and will always get dropped jaws.
