Greatest Engine of All Time

What do you think is the greatest engine of all time:

Nissan - RB36DETT / VQ
GM - LS Series
Dodge - RT V-10
Ford - 5.0 Liter
Mazda - Renesis Rotary
Honda - 2.0 L (cant remember the code)
Toyota - I-6 (Supra Motor) / Prius Hybrid Engine
Mopar - 60's Hemi Engine (cant think off the top of my head right now)

or other.

Old school 426 Hemi...greatest motor ever. These things don't die - and they also came stock underrated at 425 HP / 425 ft-lbs torque. HEMI

I would also add the Buick 3.8 Turbo in the mix.

But IMO and I agree with Matt, the small block Chevy.

My heart is with the 5.0L/302 Windsor from Ford, but mad props to GM for the 350 smallblock and Toyota for the 2JZ

Lets not forget the 4.6L in the 03 Cobra. People are running 9's on stock internals.

Ferrari make the best engines out there hands down. They are always a good 10 years ahead with their technology.

Personally, I'd like to see Honda make a V-8. That would be sick. Probably beat the hell out of all those damned BMW's and Mercedes that are all over the road.

After reading gavriils post about the new V10 M5 engine from BMW. It certainly deserves a place up there too. if you haven't read that article yet I suggest it to you gear heads.

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showp...&postcount=218

I don't see whats so special about the 5.7l Chevy... had many that were great, had many that blew up. LOL

If your looking at HP to $$ ratio, it's a real winner. In terms of technology I dunno...

Imagine where the rotary engine would be today if all of the auto manufacturers had been spending time on it...

lol, I'm just a HP slut. So my vote goes to HEMI, and not the regular dodge one. The custom blocks made for the top fuel drags!

While I agree they are superb; your statement can very easily be argued, and is really your opinion not fact.

And Honda has a lot fo be jealous of from BMW engine designs. Read link I posted in the article above.

we're forgetting about the legacy of the Mitsu. Evo. and the Subaru STi.

Both great WRC cars and wonderful engines to build upon.
I'd think that the best of engines should be chosen from the ones car makers decide to use in the racing whether it be F1, nascar, rally, etc... These are the best in the business at building engines and I'm sure they'd know what's cream of the crop and choose only from that.
