ok, bought 2 vehicles. Didn't get a Highlander hybrid like the wife wanted. Ended up getting a Toyota Sienna CE (basic model) but still a v6 and plentry of room for the kids to roam around. My daughter was estatic when we brought it home! Can't justify paying $6K for alloy wheels, dvd player and tint. Found a shop that will tint and install dvd player/monitor for <$500.

Other car is an 07 Corolla. Black with black cloth interior. I really like the metallic in the paint. I haven't owned a black car in so long I forgot how good they looked!

Oh yea, the reason we bought the Sienna, 0% financing with Toyota. Again that's for the 06 Sienna's only in case anyone here is interested in buying a box on wheels. We still went through our credit union for the Corolla at 5.9%. Pics tomorrow.

Congrat's! I think both of your final decisions were better than the initial choices.

The Sienna (although a mini van) will definitly be more userfriendly (spacious) than the highlander, and you know my thoughts on the mini compact.

Give it 5 months and you will remember why it's been so long since you've had a black car

Congrats....

What did they give you for the CL? Hopefully they gave you a sweet deal.

I just traded in my CLs for 2 cars last week. I got a Pathfinder and an I35. Both used though.

Got 10K for it. I thought it was fair cuz I was trying to sell it for $13.5.
We did get good deals on both although I wasn't expecting to get 2 NEW cars. There was a lot of decent used cars on their lot but my wife wanted to buy new!?

Cool. Good deal. Thankfully my wife's last car was a Chevy Citation, so she didn't care what I got. The deal is she lets me decide on the car and electronics, she's got the house. Works well enough for me.

Plus, I drive way too much to get a brand new car. I'm putting on about 25K to 30K a year, so after the first year, the value is shot.

How do you like the Sienna? I looked at them briefly, but never drove one.

Cool

Congrats on the new rides...

I just wanted to let you guys know that having kids (I have three) doesn't mean you have to end up with a minivan... Although they are nice a roomy you don't have to settle...

My wife and bought a couple months ago a Mazda5...

Great compromise... Sporty as hell and still has two sliding doors and 6 seats... Bonus I could get and did get it with a stick...

FYI...

dude, the only time I ever had to drive anything this big was a uhaul when we move. Took about a day to get used to it. I'm sure by the end of the week I'll be able to tell it's limits and handling characterstics. One thing I'm havin an issue with is moving around in tight spaces. The thing is so long it's hard to tell how close I'm coming to hitting something. Unless someone is sitting in the back and can tell you if you're about to hit something, I would probably get a rear camera installed. The turning radius is awesome btw. I'ts got good power at 215hp/222tq. The interior is nice, and even the basic model doesn't seem cheap feeling. I honestly did not want to get a mini van but I knew my kids would would love it. So gotta make sacrifices y'kno!? We plan on making a bunch of road trips next year so I'm totally happy with it.

That's cool! How old are your kids? I got 2 in a booster seat and Dec having another baby so another car seat. I love having the sliding doors. I mean I really love the sliding doors on both sides!!! Lol! It's never been easier to take the kids in and out of their seats.

5, 3 1/2, and 5 months...

So, two in boosters and one in an infant (rear facing)...

I too love those sliding doors... great in tight parking lots... especially with monster SUV's like most everyone owns here is SoCal...

I just love the compactness of my Mazda5, but still plenty of room inside... + I got the whole thing loaded w/Navi for less than $23K... Unbeatable...

Best of luck with your vehicles...

This is prob one of the best purchases next to the home. Oh yea, our insurance just got cheaper now that the CL is gone so we plan on updating our kitchen. Who knew that just making a purchase like a minivan can have adverse affects on other little things. The insurance thing wasn't even on my mind until my wife told me how much we're paying now (savings of about $200)!

I haven't abandoned the feeling of owning another Acura. When awd comes out, I'll be in line to check it out. Right now, having a van and corolla seems like a smart choice.

What! Less than $23??? I probably should have done more research. The only car makers I looked into was Honda and Toyota.

Yeah sorry about that... I just started checking this board again...

Had I known I would have suggested checking out the Mazda5...

One of the deciding factors was that eventhough Ford owns part of Mazda the 5 is 95+% Japanese... With a stick (I'm very European in that regard) I was sold...

just checked out Mazda's site. The 5 looks good. How do you like the drive? I noticed it's a 2.3 inline 4 @ 153hp. I thought they had a v6 version so I guess that's why it's priced so cheap. I still wouldn't mind getting a 4 cylinder tho.

With the stick again... It's great... 4banger fuel consumption but still powerful enough to beat many things on the road... It is a bit top heavy... (based on the award winning Mazda3 but taller of course... Even with full family load we just took trip to San Diego... and I would freeway merge and pass with almost no problems...

I do like it alot... It was the perfect interrum car for my family without having to go to the Minivan or Suburban et al...

BTW I hate ppl who feel they need a minivan as soon as they have one kid... Alot of vehicles out there to choose from for one kid families...

I hope I haven't spoilled your new purchase... but maybe if you are looking to do some work on your house you could save a bit more $ by turning in your Cienna and getting a Mazda5. heheh

J/K...

Again I wish you the best with your new purchases (I think a better choice than your prior Yaris/Highlander combo...)

Nah, didn't spoil anything at all, although I would have liked to test drive a Mazda 5 when we were still looking around. Thanks for the input!

At 20, they all don't ever want to get married.

Then their friends start dropping and popping out a kid or 2 and before you know it, you're paying a mortgage, driving a mini-van, picking out window treatments (after you looked up to find out what window treatments are), and posting this same thing to someone that's 20.

By the way, I lucked out, I got an SUV and haven't looked up what window treatments are yet.
