1) The Evo has been getting slightly better reviews all around. Although its interior isn't as nice and its not as comfortable for everyday driving.

2) The Evo is slightly cheaper.

3) The Evo can be found fairly easily right now for MSRP (have heard of some discounting), where the STi has just hit and are very hard to find for MSRP currently.

thats a good question? i personally like the looks of the subaru better, i trust the subaru awd system more, and imo the inside of the sti is sportier (which is why you would buy either one right?)

but i think it does come with an ac and stereo as the sti does not.

I think most cars are overpriced MSRP wise, what you can get them for is a different story.

The Evo is a limited car, so while its not a bargain I don't think its that out of line.

handling...the sti still understeers. I would take the handling and slightly less power over a $35k high perf car that understeers.

It's a shame that the EVO doesn't have the center diff switch tho. I like the interior and ex of the sti, but those cars are all about performance and I would rather have the EVO.

If anyone can't understand why the EVO VIII is 30K, just go test drive one. I did & all I can say is DAMN!!!! This car is everything the magazines say & more. The car pulls like a bat out of hell, stops with the greatest of ease & handles like it is on rails!!! If I could afford to take the loss on the trade I would get the EVO in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the loss would be too great, considering our cars have NO resale value

As far as the WRX STi...the dealer would not even let me drive it. They gave me some bullshit saying "those who come to buy the STi already know what the car is capable of & do not need to drive the car" WTF!!!!! Who the f*ck do they think they are. They said "only way to drive one is to buy it". I was not very happy with that kind of treatment & for that reason and that reason ALONE, I would NEVER buy the STi. The guys at the Mitsubishi dealer were so cool. I got to drive the car, beat the hell out of it & was not pressured to buy it. Now that's what I call good service. Might I add that the EVO out handles & out brakes the STi & costs less. Yes the STi is marginally faster in a straight line (.1 to .2 tenths), but nothing that can't be fixed with a few mods

Road & Track comparison between the EVO & STi

maybe that's exactly why they didn't let you drive it? You and every other speed freak in town would be taking test drives and beating the hell out of their cars... I wouldn't want to buy a 'new' car that someone already beat the shit out of...would you?

I agree. Somebody just constantly expect people to treat him well, but look at the way he treats other people's car..."beat the shit out of it and not being pressured to buy it"....come on.

First of all, who are you to judge me? WTF: Are you trying to tell me that if you go to test drive a performance car you are not even curious to see how fast it is? RIGHT

Zeroday, I'm sure you drove the Z like a baby when you test drove it NOT!!! If you say you did then you are lying!!!!
I'm sure you didn't trade your CL for a Z because of a bigger back seat :P

Just for the record, when I said "I beat the hell out of it", that was just a figure of speech. I drove the car like it was built to be driven. If the car was meant to be driven like a regular Lancer then maybe they would have toned down the HP just a little.

When I went to test drive both the EVO & the STi, it was not my intention to damage the cars. Both of those cars are advertised as being able to attain certain acceleration, handling & braking. I am CERTAIN that I am not the only person in America that wants to test the cars to see if their claims are realistic. It is my right as a consumer. If I damage the car then it is my responsibility to pay for it.

dealer in my area is asking 33k for the sti which is no mark-up basically. personally, id rather have the sti, with the adjustable center-differential and manual water spritzer for the intercooler. also, looks a hell of a lot sexier than the evo i think. hella quick.

haha, learn how to drive; and 33k if you find the right dealership, maybe less.

Both are great cars performance wise. But, I think Subaru USA/dealers learned a lot when they released the WRX. Mitsu US dealers/service are clueless with the EVO.

I'd get the STI. Subaru starts with a much better platform.

19k vs. 14k econoshitbox

I think that is why the STI cost more.

Impreza over Lancer anyday.

If you read those evo/sti comparisons, you'll see in most of them they drive the car much harder than you're likely ever going to, so why not pick one that makes you happy and go with it?

I don't care that the evo got better reviews, I personally like the STi, drove the STi in GT3 and any other driving games that had it, drooled over it for nearly 2 years, and finally put my money down on one a couple months ago.

As for the dealer letting you drive it? Well, in my area the STis are so rare that there was a 9-12 month waiting list to get one...simple fact is that the numbers are limited enough and demand high enough that I doubt any dealer would risk damaging a car on a test drive when he can be almost guaranteed to sell it to someone who has been waiting for the STi for years....like me. ^_^

Now, I just gotta pull off that god-awful wing and everything will be good....

exactly, you have top push a car like this when you drive it. There is no other way to really experience what it was meant to do. This car is purpose built, it can handle being pushed.

the subie understeers, it's not me, it's the car. They made it too soft and didn't put the right front/rear bias for making the car handling nuetral. I'm not a pro rally driver, but I can drive. The EVO flat out handles better and would be more fun to drive on a track. If you want a drag strip car, then get the subie. If I were buying one of these cars, I would want to take it to driving schools, the EVO would be a better buy for this unless you want to do a major suspension overhaul on the subie.

ever hear of break in

STi
Recommended Maintenance:
New Car 1,000 mile break-in period- keep RPMs under 4000 (manual transmissions), vary speeds highway and city driving, avoid hard starts/stops, warm up and cool down engine, Be nice to it... it's new.

true, another reason to not buy a car off the lot unless it has less than 10 miles on it. I wouldn't put down $30k on a car I never drove. And I wouldn't buy a performance car without putting it through the paces. The dealer should have a dedicated test drive car, but it's tough when they are a limited production vehicle.

It probably does have a function, but it looks way overdesigned for anything but ultra-high speed racing. Is the STi speedo-limited? What's the max speed? What about the EVO?

I'd think that removing a wing that big is gonna leave some holes in the trunk lid too...

Nice choice. I really like that car. If I didn't get the 03 6 spd that is the car I would have. What color are you getting BTW. I saw one up close in black and it was crazy. It was at my younger brothers graduation, and the kid who had it just graduated highschool, and traded in his new bmw 5 series for it. I was like wtf damn rich asian kids. I love the exterior of the car. The wing doesn't bother me. I like the STi, but the looks of it aren;t up to par with the EVo in my opinion.

Ahhh... wait, with the value of the 993TT holding so well, maybe you can convince the Mitzy dealer to give you 2 Evo's for your TT
