Five Things You Didn’t Know About The 2014 Corvette
Car And Driver
Thanks to some fine reporting by the incomparable Don Sherman, as well as some very reliable source material *cough* regarding the car's visuals, Car and Driver has assembled the fullest picture yet of next year's 2014 Corvette.
This unauthorized preview can be found in the January issue, and you'll get the official C7 story from C/D.com and Jalopnik after GM unveils the car at the Detroit Auto Show next month. In the meantime, though, here are some highlights of what Car and Driver knows so far.
The base car has aluminum rails:
Remember how, for the current-generation Z06 and ZR1, GM did an unprecedented thing and replaced the hydroformed-steel main spaceframe members with aluminum ones? Well, now even the base car's rails are alloy.
Five Things You Didn't Know About The 2014 Corvette
More carbon fiber:
GM has aggressive weight targets for this car, so the panels, bulkhead, and floor-of the base car-will be fashioned from composites.
Michelin won the tire war:
No more Goodyears as base fitment. Pilot Sports, y'all.
Manual, saved:
Porsche did the 7-speed-manual thing first, and ingeniously so, with one box for both self-shift and PDK applications. Here, the 7-speed stands alone, but needs only four gates rather than the Porsche's five to get the job done (don't forget reverse).
The Stingray comes later, with a V-8:
Although rumors had it bearing a twin-turbo V-6, the Stingray, the Corvette that jams econo, will be powered by a 400-hp 5.5-liter V-8, and should give 30-plus mpg on the highway.

EDIT - I see now, Im assuming the solid "mount" is now more of a bracket that bolts to the engine and the rubber mount which connects to the chassis?
had to run over to Corvetteforum.com to see what they're saying about it...

there are good and bad comments but this is what I was looking for:

That is one ugly car!
I am here at work trying to keep my laughter under control! I knew this response was coming as soon as I saw the first rendering. I can't believe they made a Nissan GTR copy. This is hilarious and so sad at the same time! I'll keep hoping for better until the car is finally revealed in January.
Looks like a Toyota Celica GT spent an evening with a GTR...YUK GROSS
Looks like the C6 will still be the "Best Vette Yet" for a Loooonnngggg time.
That car in that pic looks like a Nissan or something. Not a Corvette.

Yea i was gonna say, behind the front wheels, i see a GTR. Obviously this is just a rendering so it probably wont look like this, but it may be close, i dunno.
but it's consistent with past spyshots. also, as of yesterday, there is a downloadable camouflaged C7 in Gran Turismo 5. this basically means there are people out there who know what this car is going to look like - it's right around the corner. I think there is a very good chance it'll look like this. It may even already be a done deal.

I passed by the Volvo dealership on Saturday and saw the C30 Polestar out front. It was actually very visually stunning and I did a double-take.
Wait, only 250 are available in all of the US??? 250hp/273tq, pretty much same numbers as the ST.

Anyone ever want to abandon all else when you see car so rare, you know it'll be a long time before you see one again? Yeah, that happened today.
Was with co-workers at lunch & coming up the road was a goddamn Enzo. I just about cut out of the middle lane to follow him, but he was heading to the Ferrari dealer just on the corner.

I like the Enzo, and it sounds amazing in person. But I'm not captivated by it. A Carrera GT in person makes me drop whatever I'm doing, forget what I was thinking about, etc. very difficult if I were to be driving
I think if I saw an Aventador Roadster up close in person I'd probably shit my pants.

I agree with the CGT>Enzo view. But, it's not every day you see a $1 million car just cruising around. I thought for sure it was a dealer car as well, but sure enough, it had issued plates.
Good to know there is such a car still in the area owned privately.
And I would drop everything for an Aventador-anything.

Tires came in yesterday. Still no call on the ST, though. Could be today...

I would turn around and follow an Enzo if I was driving and saw one pass by lol. same for CGT. or any of the other super rare exotics. I haven't seen an Enzo driving on the street since forever. This was the only time I was able to get any photos of one (two in this case), at a Ferrari show in Chicago in 2005:

I would NOT turn around for an Aventador tho - just because I can see anytime I want, at any of the various car shows in Chicago. Whereas, people don't bring out CGT or Enzo to those shows, typically.
Also - one of my primary motivations for turning around would be for the Exotics picture thread

I think I may get some aftermarket wheels when next summer hits and mount those on the F1s. Then I will have two complete sets.
On the road back to my office from a meeting this morning I saw the following - 2 Ferrari's (1 430 and 1 355 'vert), 3 Porsches (2 Panameras and a Cayman), and 1 Aston Martin (a DB9 Volante)...the only thing missing was a Partridge in a Pear Tree. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of any of them.
I have never seen an Enzo or Carrera GT on the streets, but I have seen a McLaren F1. It had to be Herb Chambers with his silver one a couple years back. I tried to turn around and get a better look but he was gone...
I saw a hell of a line up on Boylston St in Boston a few weeks ago. Some F430's, a 458, and a MP4-12C. I was driving and couldn't get a picture...

No, these are winter tires. I'm mounting these on the OEM wheels. Since the stock tires are Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, a summer performance, I had to get some tires for the winter.

ST didn't come in today. And tomorrow I'm seeing Pulp Fiction in theatres. If it comes in, I'll have to wait until Friday.
Upsizing to 19s? Nah, I haven't really thought about that. I think I'll be pretty content with 18.
Hehe, yeah, the rear is pretty odd. I do like that shade of blue and I think the wheels are nice. The front end is pretty tame, too.

Saw it at Detroit last year.
The rear seats are a pain to get in, though.
