Nothing about that center console makes any sense to me, but I'm poor so what do I know

screen protectors for the screen in your car you can't be more than that hahaha
But yah.. i think the headlight polish/wax + your hand will be the best bet. Just make sure you tape the surroundings well, cuz you dont want those white stuff to get in the gaps.

When I go over to Asian friends' houses I want to pull off the protective vinyl that's been there since day 1. It's like that quirk gets inherited from their parents.

my parents still have the clear film around their TV... and the TV is at least 5 years old

Toothpaste and petro jelly is a shitty solution
You're essentially using the toothpaste as an abrasive to grind the surface and petro jelly to fill in.. total shit idea.
Fundamentally sound, but shit execution
I'd use a magic eraser with water and gently remove the smudge, light strokes until it's gone
If it's a real scratch, you're fucked, you need a filler that hardens and buff it out
I think film is overkill for that little screen.

I'll ditch the toothpaste/vaseline idea and try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser w/ water route. Hopefully I can get it out.

Whats up with RDX owners?

Hmm...not sure about a protector for that screen. The protector I have in the Golf is glass:
https://smile.amazon.com/2018-SportWagen-Protector-RUIYA-Protective/dp/B07B61B3GZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=golf+screen+protector&qid=1551 212524&s=electronics&sr=1-3
And they make one for the screen I was thinking it was:

But, again, to be clear, it is NOT the MMI/nav screen. It's the little digital display between the two climate control knobs above the cup-holders.

Chalk it up to character and move on. You bought a DD not a garage queen.

If I can do something about it, why not. And the Magic Eraser route per Majofo is a pretty safe and borderline free solution...so, why would I not want to try to fix it? And besides, while the Audi is a DD, I'm not BoostedJack-rich and would like to preserve it's "mintiness" for as long as possible.

^ So basically and he can't even argue with that.

It's not a daily driver... Also, it would get stuck leaving the driveway.
Magic eraser on a shiny plastic surface may make it worse. It's basically fine sandpaper so unless you can polish after doing the eraser, it may look cloudy.

I wouldn't even compare it to those sandpaper foam pads.
Sandpaper is dense and rigid, melamine foam is porous and flexible.
It's abrasive, but the sensitivity of it isn't comparable to sandpaper.
H, If you have doubts, rub your dick with it..or some shitdick's screen at work.
Just make sure you're only applying it over the xfer mark with water.
Light and even until gone with moisture.
Again, it's not to be used to remove scratches.
What H is describing is a transfer mark / smudge.
He's using the magic eraser to remove the material on the screen, not sanding down the screen.

Yeah, I'll test it out on an old laptop's display first and then go from there. Again, thanks for the advice.
What do you guys think about car wraps in general? I've seen some horror stories both online and IRL. Nevermind the installer being an idiot and not covering edge to edge, but sometimes the wrap not coming off cleanly and wrecking the paint.
Buddy is looking to buy a new Model 3 and mainly wants to protect his paint. I suggested for him to look into getting it ceramic coated, but he's still lingering on the wrap idea.
Rarely gets to freezing temps here, highest it can be is mid-90s. He may or may not have a garage space.

A wrap... to protect the paint.. spend legit 4-8k for a proper shop to wrap... to protect his paint.

That's what I told him, it would be way too expensive for just that. He's not a flashy guy, at least hasn't been. Who knows, maybe he becomes one of those douchebags and gets it wrapped in a smurf blue-chrome color.
Then again he just built a new townhome where the average prices are like $1.5M...

You get the wrap to change the color of the car. For protection that is what the clear rubber is for. Is he ? Not this shit again

I can tell you from experiencing a couple cars at work, wrapping the car is going to do the opposite of protecting the paint unless he spends money and gets some top-notch, over-the-line company with a super reliable film. Otherwise, esp. in a climate where it doesn't get cold, the sun is going to bake that wrap into the paint after some months of it being on. We had a RC traded in with a "carbon fiber" wrap on the roof, and when we peeled it off, it just left the smallest chunks that basically embedded themselves into the roof. Had to have it all stripped and repainted.

Transmission Hose
I need to replace a collant hose from the turbo, the hose as almost a 90º The original is no longer sold. The hose with the curve is not longer them 4 to 5 inches.
Is it ok to use a transmission hose that goes to a cooler from other car (have a used spare one) that as several curves, including a 90º
The markings on the hose are DTR ACM 4X03
So a hose that was from ATF to Coolant, is it safe if I degrease?

I really hate to admit this (mostly to myself), but I think my current DD (a 2007 Acura TL 3.2 6AT) slots into the category of "not quite boring, exactly, merely extremely competent" ... or maybe, just maaaaybe, slightly above that, but not really ....
Where does your DD land in Schilling's scheme of things? And how do you feel about that?

In Praise of Boring Cars
Many years ago I owned a second-gen Ford Tempo, which sucked. Sometime after that I owned a Saturn Ion, which also sucked, but a bit less. (The first time my dad rode in it, all he could be moved to say was, “This is a very basic car.”) Right now, I’m driving a rental Nissan Versa on a trip west. And you know what? I don’t hate it.
The Fun Cars are the ones we all know of as Fun: Small cars that go quick, like a Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Volkswagen Up GTI, Porsche 911, Ford Fiesta ST, Mercedes AMG C-Class, etc. The Too-Much-Fun Cars include everything bigger and faster than the Fun Cars, which means every supercar and most sports cars, or basically any car with more than 400 horsepower, whether that be from an internal combustion engine, electric powertrain, or hybrid. These are cars that you might think you want to drive, but will only end up getting you arrested, killed, broke, or all three at the same time.
Then there are the Good But Functional Cars, which are basically any station wagon and any small truck with a two-person cab. Then there are the Way-Too-Big-Planet-Killing Cars, which includes pretty much any SUV and non-two-person-cab truck. Then there are The Vans, all of which are good.
A whole different category of cars I won’t even get into are the Weird And Unique Cars, which I guess I would slot Miata and Wrangler into, along with a lot of JDM shit, and along with Twingo. And then there is a whole otherclassification of cars that are not quite boring, exactly, merely extremely competent, like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.
All of which brings me to the Boring Cars. You know which ones I’m talking about. The Chevy Cruze. This recent-ish Nissan Versa I’m driving right now. The goddamn Kia Rio. Hell, we had a whole column devoted to meh cars until pretty recently.
But I was motoring with my Versa earlier this morning in Reno, Nevada, and while it has basically no power, everything inside worked, and it has things (like power windows) that were not a given on cars until fairly recently, and did I mention that everything in it worked, just as I asked it to do? Also, it was pretty comfortable for my 6'2" frame, which I can’t say the same about for even some of the Big Cars.
What I’m trying to say is that it motored just fine. And it isn’t some huge, idiotic SUV. It is a sensible, proper car. And if you want to judge someone for driving a sensible, proper car, feel free, though I would save my hate for people who willingly own, like, a fucking Expedition, which is not only boring but is also big and stupid. Get outta here with that nonsense.

Dude.. no wonder you like that commentary.. that guy doesn't love cars, and neither do you. You don't even know your own car.

I judge people who drive boring cars. Not because that's all they can afford, or because it's practical and sole purpose is to commute. I judge because the are so many choices out there, and they still picked that piece of shit. Cmax for one.

These are the people who have no passion for driving, and it shows. That's not to say that those who have nice cars do. Many of them are assholes too, just rich ones.
My car is satisfying, comfortable enough for me, and easy to drive and park. Pretty good on gas. Just wish it had more power, but not enough to want another car, yet. The lack of power helps keep me out of trouble
I'm stuck in traffic half the time anyway, so honestly I might not mind a cushy hybrid or electric car.

Yeah, saw a Lotus Exige the other day putting around in slow/stop and go traffic....a low key dd etchas its place.
Lot of ppl have 0 interest in cars...they just want cheapest/most reliable/highest mpg. I won't judge them though.....cause I for one have 0 interest in other hobbies areas like: watches, shoes, comic books, movie props, stamps, coins, knife collecting, etc. to infinity...
