I think the F50 looks like it should be driven by a dude with lots of chest hair and gold chains.

Like an Italian Corvette.

CLtotheTL32 10-04-2011 10:16 PM

Watch it buddy. Maybe I'm Italian with a ton of chest hair and more gold chains than Mr. T.

Gotta problem? :annoyed:

Aman 10-04-2011 10:32 PM

F40>F50 all day :rockstar:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Wr_0RdP14S...1600/f40-1.jpg

That said, I too, would still kill for an F50.

CLtotheTL32 10-04-2011 10:35 PM

Don't get me wrong, I love the F40, but I would love to have the F1 inspired V12 screaming behind my head while driving

Aman 10-04-2011 10:40 PM

Sweet, so I'll get my F40, you get the F50 and we'll hit up the track and see who wins.

I dunno, IMO the F40 looks more timeless than the F50. It's too curvy for my tastes.

Here's another question: What is your ideal beater? I might be getting one next summer, the cheaper the better. Been daydreaming about everything from Integras, to old Cutlasses, Fox bodies, a second Accord... :tomato:

What would you get? Say a budget of $2,000.

CLtotheTL32 10-04-2011 10:47 PM

Agreed, the F50 is a bit "over the top". Maybe that's what attracts me to it

Anyways, I think a Teggy would be a great choice. No offense but the Accord isn't really a garage queen :tomato: Why do you want a beater?

srika 10-04-2011 10:51 PM

the F40 has aged much better than the F50. but the sound of the F50 is WAY ahead of the F40.

Crazy Bimmer 10-04-2011 10:51 PM

Can anyone tell me what cars currently have pop up door locks?

I had to borrow my dads car (02 RL) to take my nephews to a baseball game over the weekend.

My youngest nephew says "oh cool the old style door locks"

I had him explain what he meant as I never thought about it before. Then couldnt think of a car today that has them. hmm

Crazy Bimmer 10-04-2011 10:58 PM

Nevermind, I just googled and theres still plenty of cars that use them. Maybe not as large as the RL has but still there.

Yumcha 10-04-2011 11:20 PM

I would take the F40 over the F50... :ponder:

Yumcha 10-04-2011 11:20 PM

But, I'd take a Zonda over both. :D

I've been beating the crap out of it, I know. :tomato:

I'm in university 4 hours from home and my mom needs the car more than I do, so it's staying in Toronto, but I could really use a car here as well.

Talked to my insurance agent, and he said I could get the Teg insured for $150, which could be pulled off easily if I play my cards right.

What about Legacys? They're cheaper than I thought, AWD too. :ponder:

Kim Kardashian Trades SUV for $300G Ferrari

The chances of seeing Kim Kardashian behind bars have just increased dramatically.
The reality show star was spotted by X17Online.com trading in her Range Rover SUV for something slightly faster, and more likely to catch the attention of law enforcement – a white Ferrari 458 Italia.
If you can break free from L.A.’s notorious traffic, the Italian coupe can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds flat and hit a top speed of 202 mph.
Platform heels are probably not the best footwear to attempt that in, but perhaps the aspiring fragrance mogul purchased the customized car -- reportedly for $300,000 – for its looks rather than speed.
Click here for the exclusive story from X17Online.com
The work was done by Platinum Motorsports, a boutique that caters to a long list of celebrities which reportedly includes David Beckham, Ron Artest and Nick Cannon.
There are no details on the modifications that she ordered, but considering her husband Chris Humphries is 19 inches taller than her, we hope she went for electric seats.

I was looking into this a couple weeks ago because i wanted a winter beater. I would go for something 4x4 and somewhat cool. Old Jeep Wrangler preferably. Or an old Toyota pickup.

Cheapest running beater I could find in my area was around $1500 though. Its hard to find anything cheaper. I was entertaining the idea of getting a winter beater for $500-600 instead of getting winter tires for the same money haha.

Where can we find a car on this side of the Atlantic for ~100 pounds like they did on Top Gear? Seems like they have better deals on beater cars over there in the UK :dunno:

chill_dog 10-05-2011 12:07 AM

I liked the F40 back in the day...looks too dated to me now. Don't like the F50's looks at all. Now the 308...that's still hot :toocool:

:werd: They got some great cars for so little. :annoyed:

Was looking into old 4Runners, but I'd like something that I can drift in the snow, and not worry about rolling over. :tomato:

I'm sure $500 deals exist somewhere, my uncle would buy a new car every couple of years for no more than $700.

Besides, a second car > second set of tires. :O

Hmmm. In canada? Id stay away from old Hondas otherwise theyd be nothing but rust. The reason you guys are having a hard time finding a cheap winter beater is because it's almost winter. The best time to buy a winter beater is in the spring.

$2k, in college.................hookers and blow.

The seats look nothing like what a $50k car should have in it. They look cheap as hell.

If you guys had $25k to spend on BUILDING a car, be it a kit car or customizing a car any way you'd like, what would it be? Ive already got mine figured out:

yeah, I think I know what you mean. the F40 is not a timeless design. it's too loud. curious, what do you think of the Dino? Miura?

srika 10-05-2011 12:14 AM

that M5 wagon idea is pretty hot.

CLtotheTL32 10-05-2011 12:16 AM

:werd: M5 wagon would be awesome.

But why replace a V8 with another V8?

I agree on the F40. And for some reason, I even prefer the 288 to the F40.

My favorite Ferraris in no particular order:

1. F355
2. 575M
3. 288 GTO
4. F50
5. 512TR (It may not be the best Ferrari, but its the first one I ever saw and fell in love with it)

I just wish I had the money. I need to climb underneath an E39 and see how much room there is in the back. Id like to run the 'Vette rear transaxle for weight distribution but don't know how feasible that is.

IIRC they never actually shipped any E39 M5s to the states, so Id be looking for a 525 or 540 touring. Plus, from a reliability stand point, a Bimmer engine really cant outlast an LS engine. Aftermarket parts are also plentiful and not crazy expensive. But most of all, why not?

An early 525 touring can be had for under $10k. They weigh around 3700lbs stock. The LS engine is surprisingly light, plus with other lightening here and there Im sure I can get it down to about 3400lbs. With 505hp (more since Ill be doing exhaust, intake and headers). Its something that Ive been thinking about for a few months now :tomato:

btw in case you didnt know, BMW made E60 M5 wagons. I think they may have had older M5 wagons also. Im reading that there was an E34 M5 wagon

Aman 10-05-2011 12:20 AM

I'd do a Roadmaster with an LS9.

Im not sure if any of the M5 wagons ever made it to the states. I think we only got the sedans.

 very true.

I should have clarified though, I was looking for something slightly specific. 4x4 + Manual trans. I found a bunch of beaters for around $750-1000 but they were all autotragics.

I want this thing not only for the winter, but also to learn/practice driving stick so when I eventually do the 6MT swap in my TL, I know what I'm doing already.

speedemon90 10-05-2011 01:59 AM

My great uncle visited tesla at the NUMMI factory, he has a deposit for the top of the line tesla. He's expected to get it by next summer, will see how it is. It'll be interesting. That interior doesnt look that good, I wonder what he thought of it, he's kinda high class doesnt like cheap stuff

edit: remember tesla is still in the beta phase, so maybe they arent touching up the interior yet?

Costco 10-05-2011 03:22 AM

^The Tesla Model S? Looks really good on the outside, the interior looks like a concept car's.

Dunno about you guys, but I do like a little NVH in my cars. I'm sure Teslas would make excellent daily drivers, and the instantaneous torque from the electric motors is awesome, but I'd still rather have something that's slower and noisier.... just has to be a good kind of noise.

I still want to build a project car with a big lopey cam V8. I would start it up and let it idle, then kick back with a beer so I could just watch and listen.

I must have been a redneck in my previous life.

Costco 10-05-2011 03:40 AM

Sad to say though but it seems like the V8 is going the way of the dinosaur. I know it'll be a long time from now but so are gasoline engines in general. I MUST be an old soul because I like the sound and smell of an internal combustion engine, efficiency and environmental friendliness be damned.

This is why I like the Corvette so much I guess. A big(ish) V8 with a low-down torque curve with RWD is so flexible. Aerodynamic enough and capable enough to utilize tall gears, it can get upwards of 30mpg on the freeway. The LS3 responds so well to mods for a naturally aspirated engine that it's not even funny. Yeah it has a mediocre interior, but I feel the exterior more than makes up for it, not to mention the price you get it at. In person and on paper, it's all there. It satisfies both the car buff and the nerd inside me. I probably gush about it too much, but it's because I really appreciate a car like it. Plus the latest models finally have seats worth a damn.

It's probably just me, but I'd rather have a Z06 over a ZR1. The big jump in price over a base Corvette seems justified, but the jump from that to a ZR1 doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Not to mention in it's latest iteration the Z06 is only a couple of seconds slower than the ZR1 on the 'Ring. I really like the MR shocks because in principle, they're perfect.... but for some reason I've never been crazy about the ZR1. Maybe it's that tacky blower window on the hood.

I really don't care about any stereotypes about cars either. I usually am the farthest thing from them anyways. I know it's said in jest, but I'm not even close to middle-aged and I'm not white so when people say "the Corvette is an old white man's car" I usually chuckle.

Costco 10-05-2011 03:43 AM

One more thing.... I'd do almost anything for an R32 or an R34 GT-R but I will never love the new GT-R as much I did its predecessors. As if that was not commonly known.... :co:

I've seen it in person more than I have in pictures. It still looks like :turd: I'm all about form > function but I can't appreciate a car that had it's exterior designed with aerodynamics in mind over aesthetics.

I like the Dino; the Miura, not so much. The Dino is a mismash of designs (front like a 60's sports car, rear more modern - for the time), but it works. The headlights/front end of the Miura kill it for me.

I used to like the Countach, but I no longer do for the same reasons as the F40. Same with the 959. Too many large aero bits and exaggerated panels. I know, it was the 80's.

I really like the 355 and Murcielago. I think both will age well.

Countach seems "ok" to me still. I mean, I would rock one lol. Agreed on the 959, used to love that car as a kid but now it just looks, weird.

good seeing you around West6MT!

that 'upgraded' Tesla interior looks decent. there's a video review on autoblog, that I haven't had a chance to look at yet. I think its tough because it's difficult for us to not compare the car to existing cars. And the fact is, its not going to look the same as a regular car, just because it doesnt have a large number of accessory controls that a gas-powered vehicle has. I just wish they would have tried to make the interior look a little more 'modern'.

The only way I could own an Italian exotic from the 80s is if I were a coke dealer.

I still love the 959, more so from a performance aspect then the appearance. It was ahead of its time, and can still hold it's own against most exotics today.

Id say take a video on your test drive, but usually customer cars + video camera = youtube car accident waiting to happen.
