Hottest battle among automakers: Luxury under $50K

Looking to drive in luxury for less than $50,000? Right now may the best opportunity in years to get the model you want at the price you want. Thanks to a combination of aggressive lease deals and more choices for entry-level luxury, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Cadillac sales for less than $50,000 are soaring.

"The battle among luxury auto brands to capture buyers with models under $50,000 is the fiercest it's ever been," said Edmunds.com's Jessica Caldwell. "Look at all the models out there right now in that price range. They are all very good models, so there are more choices for first-time buyers."
Rest of the story here: http://www.cnbc.com/id/101113572

My Editorial Comment - guess which marque has several cars priced right in the middle of this battle but doesn't have the models to actually compete? Yep, Acura. Way to go, Acura!

To be fair, the TL and TSX are at the end of their model cycles. It'll be interesting to see what the TLX turns out to be, although I doubt many of us are holding our breath.

Well, to look at that fact critically, one has to wonder why two of the company's most important models in the lineup are becoming stale at the same time. Planning much, Acura?

I agree, but I'm sure they make up for it when both new models come out at the same time.

If the TSX truly is dying though, then it will no longer be an issue. ILX and TLX model changes should be far enough apart to keep the brand current (in theory).

The only cars to have officially done the ring faster in the wet are the Pagani Zonda F and 2k11 GT-R, and only by 13 seconds.

Well.. let's just say it would be the top of my muscle car list. I don't think I'll be dropping $70k on a Camaro though.

There's a Delta Integrale 8V for sale on Ebay for $10K. Not in the same condition as the yellow one but still pretty nice.

Edmunds is saying the 2015 Audi S3 is going to approach $50k.

No way I'm paying that much. Shouldn't be more than $40k IMO.

2008 S4 Avants are $30k+ with a lot of miles (relatively) on them.

If I had to choose between a new S3 for $48k and a year old S4, I'm taking the S4 obviously.

I hope Audi comes to their senses on the S3.

There's one in H&G, too. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they're in other subforums, as well. As for why, somebody has to pay to keep AZ free.

My question was more rhetorical than not. I guess my post was something of a protest against the incursion of ads disguised as discussion threads. It's one thing to have a banner ad at the top of the page, it just strikes me as a different (and intrusive) animal to get down into the thread index like that.

I'm using Adblock in Firefox. This is an ad that looks like a thread so it seems to bypass Adblock.
