gas sippgers
gas sippgers
OK, so my work involves a lot of driving and I really hate stopping to get gas if i really don't have to...any advice as to the best car for fuel that is NOT a hybrid? I've heard good and bad stories about hybrids, so I'm gonna let them work out kinks for the next few years until they get it down pat...
in the meantime, what is the best car i can get for fuel efficiency? it doesn't have to necessarily be new, and price is not a problem. So far the best I have come across is a 97 (forgot what gen that is) civix HX coupe....and next best thing may be a...*gasp*...neon...

if you can get your hands on an old CRX HF you are looking at around 30 MPG if it is just you going to work. other than that if you need to have a car you can carry people around in the Civic is just fine. don't go with the neon just stick with the civic.
Oh yeah also the 91 civic hatchbacks. also i meant to say was you are looking at about 40 mpg on both of the cars. and the civic hatchbacks are great cars. ive had two myself.
Good luck

Wait for all the new diesels to come out. You will have tons of options of cars that get 40-50mpg on the highway (most hybrids can't do that), still get good city mileage and have tons of torque.

I would think a VW Gol-err-Rabbit Diesel will get that.

I'll be looking at them too, when Honda finally brings them to the US.

Pooh by all means stay away from the neon, especially if its an auto. They get bad mpg for an "econo" car. The gearing is horrible in those cars
learn to hypermill the car, some guy got over 60MPG with an accord after hypermilling it, though he was a pro and its kinda dangerous, such as shutting of car at certain points, gliding, etc.

the smart car in my avatar, gets 50 or more. 6AT diesel. that was in germany, don't think they have the diesel ones here. they are way over priced here as well.

seems like civics are #1 on the list here, although the smart car is tempting...i'm not sure how much i trust the reliability of mercedes products anymore, although I've heard of some awesome mileage with them...
f23a4, whereas i do like to 06 accord and the new tails...i was looking for mileage a littler better...my tl gets about the same mileage now, and my weekend warrior is worse...i was hoping for something closer to 35+ mpg...I considered the TSX b/c it is a 4cyl...but heard mpg is not too far from the tl...

Aside from that, any consideration for public transportation?
looks like even though the TSX is a 4 banger, it gets close to the same mpg as the accord...interesting...guess that's out...civics seem to take the cake so far...
public transportation is not really an option for me...it would cost a helluva lot more...lol....i have to drive to work at the office, and then i do a lot of driving around new areas to find more business...sometimes on a whim or frmo a good lead at my previous location...public transportation would make it hell as I need to run on an impromptu schedule and not on that of a predetermined public one..

You get close to 30mpg in your TL?
Then again I drive like my right foot weighs a ton.... thats pretty good mileage for a V6 Accord too btw, I was thinking it was a 4-cyl before I read the caption.
I think the Yaris comes in stick. How about a Honda Fit? They're supposedly pretty fun to drive too. Definitely consider a small diesel car though, not sure exactly whats out there, probably some VWs...

yeah, i drive a lot of highway now so it's easy to get about 400 miles per tank. I can easily see me getting mroe than 500 on a sipper...i've actually been interested in the rabbit...but after the headlight recall and reliability issues, not so sure. A buddy of mine referred me to the mazda 3 as well, since it has navi, comes in I4, and stick...options are perfect, but too ugly for my taste..lol...I wanna be able to loo at what i drive everyday...so i keep coming back to civic...just hoping to break away from the mold as I've been through a few civics in my day...

yeah, it's funny...with hondas you can tend to drive em closer to about 75-80, and as long as you have a 5spd tranny, mileage stays relatively the same...it's awesome!!!
on a sad note...my wife's prius went in under the knife last night...wouldn't start and we don't know why...I'm not even gonna try a DIY on a hybrid so soon...

Idea: You could get an 08 Corolla (likely in its final model year) on the cheap; no OEM navi though.
