Garmin nuvi 200

Anyone else pick up on this deal? I ended up with 3. 2 for both my parents and one for my motorcycle (I jimmy-rigged a safety-wire mount using the OEM mount provided, works great).

I love the speed and no-nonsense interface.

btw got mine for 169.99 each (no sales tax)

edit - on cnet - magellen got 7.7, nuvi got 7.8

im happy with either

i sell both of those models at best buy all day long...

neither one of them have text to speech which IMO is something you should have on a GPS.

I guess its everyone individual choice but i think you get what you pay for

I wanted to get the Mio (w/the 4.3 inch screen) from Radioshack, but they ran out in like 15 minutes (at every one in my area). They also ran out of the Navigon 2100 but one of the locations said they were getting 2 delivered to them, so I got both (one for me and one for a friend). I needed one for the truck, and I'm very happy with it so far. It does have text to speech which is nice, and looks/fits/mounts nice in the truck. I paid $149.99, and, it comes with a free lifetime subscription to the traffic info. The ones you guys got are nice too. It seems like they're all pretty much the same, just slight differences.

^ get the nuvi 600 ( i think) which was on sale for 400 @ best buy... didnt seems like a high ticket item when i was in the register line

btw bout the navigon

i was going to buy it cuz it was a SWEEEET deal but looked on cnet and stated that it sometimes was not accurate and it's sluggish to reroute

how do you like it? is the "real view" that nice?

I have a garmin and its awesome. Whats such a joke is how mine costs 350 and how the OEM ones cost upwards of 2000 grand. Sure they add a few features to the car but still I think they need to start lowering prices on OEM navis.

I was to pick up the nuvi 650 which costco had for 299 but missed out cause I was contemplating getting the tomtom 920t. Anyone has any experience with the 920t? I have used nuvi 350 and was very impressed. Thoughts on 920t and any info on where I can get one at a good price?

You can update the software on unit. Visit Garmin.com

Out of the box, I had 3.20. I noticed a little sluggish behavior. Updated to 3.50 and it is MUCH quicker now.

The Navigon was a great deal, and I'm glad I got it. It is a "little" sluggish...you hit a button and then it responds. Nothing that would deter me too greatly. The "real" view is pretty nice. It looks just like the pics on the web. Shows you the interchange how you are looking at it, and shows which lane to be in. I would say its a good buy at $299 or whatever they sell it at, and a great buy at $150 (especially since they threw in the traffic for life for free).

Been looking at the Nuvi 660 and 680...seem pretty solid. Anyone know if there is a way to hook up the navi to an RCA output on a head unit so the directions can be spoken thru the car speakers?

I haven't looked but do the units have a 3.5mm standard jack?

yes

as for the navigon... those things are baller. I would buy one in a heartbeat if i didn't have the oem nav. I always show it to people at best buy regardless of what they are looking to buy.

I would say stick with garmins, i don't like the tom toms and ive had several people return theirs for garmins because they hate the UI.

the 350's are probably your best bet but if you HAVE to have the wide screen the 600 series is nice as hell too... kinda pricey though. I just dont know why someone would want bluetooth on a handheld navi... the speakers suck balls on those things. buy a parrot bluetooth kit, its much better than what you'll get out of a garmin/tomtom or navigon (magellen too but i hate those things)

the only thing about Garmins are the voices... just sounds too robotic, where as TomToms, the voices sound.... well, human.

True, i usually turn the voice off or put the volume all the way down on my garmin, they annoy me!

It was one of the door buster deals at Radioshack I guess...though it wasn't in the add. I didn't get up at 6 or anything...I really didn't think anyone would flock to Radioshack, so I tried looking around for the Mio at 8am, and they were sold out, but one Radioshack said they were getting 2 Navigons (which they had sold out of) delivered to their store, and I go buy them if I wanted, and return them when they got in if I didn't like them...so I did. But I kept them.

Thank God I got a great deal, because I wanted to pick one up on Black Friday but it seemed by 8 am I was already too late.

I am so divided right now :-/, i like garmin due to its UI, tomtom is ok as well but another name that i am hearing a lot is navigon specially now that they have the free lifetime traffic navigator .

Navigon 7100 is listed at 399 on overstock.com, which is a great buy but i have no experience with the product, anyone want to chime in on that? I have read a few reviews but they have been mixed.

I have the Navigon 2100. I've only had it for 3 days, but have toyed with it a bit. It is similar to the 7100 from what I understand, but the 7100 adds a few features (bluetooth I believe). It is a good product for what it is intended to do. It is a "little" slow when you press the buttons, but unless you are ADD, it is totally bearable. The text to speech is nice, and the interchange view is nice too.

I would give it a 8/10. The two things I would fix are a faster processor and for the power cord to plug in the back instead of the bottom. (Won't let me mount it under my radar because of this and have it plugged in at the same time because the dash is in the way). Here's a pic of mine.

its pimp...

i show it to everyone looking at GPS's. you get all the bells and whistles on it, text to speech, traffic (free), bluetooth and $399 is still $100 better than the sale price at best buy. i'd say pick it up for sure. the UI is a little different but not too hard to learn once you play with it for a few hours.

I picked up the TomTom ONE 3rd ed. at Fry's on Black Friday for $118. Its very basic but it meets my needs. I like the interface, its very accurate, calculates re-routes quickly, and pretty darn good at acquiring the satellite signal even indoors. Seems like a lot of the stores now have them for around $150 but are currently sold out of them.

I also purchased the Nuvi 200 after reading the CNET reviews. For $169 it's a great portable nav that's easy to operate and functions very smoothly. I would recommend it.

I got the Navigon 2100T on Black Friday at Staples for $99 and the TomTom One 3rd Ed for $124 (plus free $20 Staples gift card). They're Xmas presents for my family so I haven't opened any of them yet. The cool thing about the Navigon, at least from just looking at the box, is that it has Text to Speech and free lifetime Traffic Updates. I wish that was free for my RL.

I bought the TomTom One 3rd Edition for 124.99 at Circuit City.

It's a nice NAVI, the only negative for me is that it doesn't have Text to Speech, but that's not a big deal to me.

I used to think that text2speech wasn't a big deal as well, until one time my TomTom (for my Treo) got me a little lost cuz it was telling me to make a turn in 100 yards or something like that, but it was in an area where the cross streets where really REALLY close together... I didn't know which one as I got closer... by the time I looked down to look at the name of the street, I had passed it... Then due to traffic and no uturns... it was a pain in the ass to get back on route...
