This drives me insane: if I drove through town w/ a car that had no exhaust pipe from the cat back, I'd get pulled over in 2 seconds flat, yet some knucklehead w/ straight pipes on his Hog can do the very same thing at 4 a.m. w/ no worries. Don't get me wrong, I love bikes but shit ain't right.

It's a logarithmic scale ... +3 dB means 2x sound intensity (insert notes here about actual vs perceived intensity, etc).

They will give it back if he takes it to the dealer and has it modded back to spec, "zen he must pay ze fine". Then he'll get it back. Ve have roles here, and zis iz ze only way to get it back...

I mean, they will give it back but they will make him pay a daily impound fee, plus the fine, plus the mods. But if your father is the head of a country, money should not be an issue.

Hopefully he can afford all those fines

I can't think of any state that has a law against Harley's and noise and its amazing that its never become a hot topic. The double standard IS a pile of horse shit.

I've had this same feeling for years now. I've even asked a couple of cops why the rules are different and they can't give me an answer.

I think that bikes are allowed to have loud exausts systems just because its harder to see them so by having a loud exhaust people can hear them...thats just what I think though...

There are better ways to be more visible in traffic.

<-- stock exhaust on the bike and the car.

pssst YOUR state does

Technically "in" your state. There are many cities that have laws against loud pipes Hollywood/West Hollywood has one of the tougher laws against loud pipes.

...and you are correct: You will never see a law against "Harley's and noise"....but you may see one for motorcycles. Why go after one brand

pssst, that's why I said STATE LAW, not a local law. I'm talking about a state wide ban on loud motorcycle pipes and/or Harley pipes in general. Dosent exist.

Ok.

Why have a state law when towns that have problems with it or don't like it appear to be taking care of the issue themselves?

What's the deal with Harley pipes? The stockers are very quiet. Performance line are louder...but aftermarket pipes by other mfg are much louder.

I'm confused....or is it that you call all V-twin cruiser bikes "Harleys"?
