Lexus pros: build quality, reliability, service is best, highly modable
cons: not the quickest if speed is what you are after. smaller then the g35, modding is costly

G35 pros: reliable, 05 has better interiors, good service (very good from what ive been told) moddable, the coupe is AWESOME
cons: 4 door exterior styling is just ok.

In Europe and Japan, a 2.0 liter engine is considered "big" ...

^^ yeah i know it is, but compare that IS 200's 153 bhp 2.0 to a Civic Typer R's 210 bhp. Heck compare the IS 300's 215 bhp to that same civic.

Current model IS300 is expensive and looks tacky. Like the Acura RL before it, you get the lux experience but don't have to pay for those stupid snobby-sounding commercial sound bytes Lexus uses.

Yes, the IS is rear wheel drive but the TSX and TL drive so nicely. Only reason to stay away from them is RWD. AND if whatcha want IS performance rear wheel drive, get a BMW or Infiniti.

G35 starts at 28k-38k loaded
IS starts at 30k\36k loaded

What are you talking about?

So a TSX ain't lame, its a 2.0 I-4..... Acura is not sold overseas and over in Europe you must have smaller displacement engines and diesals.

I'd get a G35 only b/c its much newer than an IS. Handling is about even but the G35 makes it more fun b/c of the VQ. The G35 is big though, the IS is more 3/C class size, which is a plus to me.

But seems the IS 250/350 is coming this fall, so I would just wait.

read my other post as well mate, i said that the IS 200 makes 153 hourses , as Jermy from top gear said, " we can get that many hourses out of a pencil sharpener these days " i know he was being sarcastic but its true. The TSX , motor wise, is a way better car with 200 hp , still being a 4 banger. Even if you wait for the new IS, it still would fall a lil short of the current G35. And as far as light and heavy goes, well for that you have to go and drive a G35 before you can pass a judgement, the motor sits behind the front axle and the weight distribution is 52/48 , close to perfect, the car feels light compared to an IS which feels front heavy. And btw the TSX is sold in England as the Accord. Its not like you would be hauling the weight on your shoulders, its how the weight acts in the chassis itself, the IS platform is old and needs to be replaced with something that can give the same results that the FQ is able to give, salut.

Personally I would wait for the IS250/IS350 coming this Fall and decide. I'm pretty sure that it would be very nice seeing what Lexus is doing with the new GS, and the not-sure-how-credible pics of the new IS looks pretty good. In my opionion, I think IS and G35 (4dr, before you guys start flaming) are different cars in that the IS is more tended towards performance, and is more nimble. Whereas G35 (again, 4dr) is tended towards luxury (4dr Skyline was always that, good performance, but more luxury), and is bigger.

Overall they are different cars, but if you talk about numbers, they are *generally* considered as being in the same entry lux sport sedan segment. I would compare the IS with the A4, C class, and 3 series group, and maybe the TSX (smaller entry lux sports sedan). Where the G35 is in its own group with the TL, somewhere between the A4/C/3/IS and the GS/M45/5/E group, offering more horsepower and room for less money compared to the small lux sport sedan group.

The is300 and g35 are nowhere near the same class. They have never been compared in any car magazines. The is300 is in the same league as the tsx, 325i, c230. Those cars have been compared in car and driver, etc. The g35 is in the category with the tl, 330i/ci, c320, etc.

The g35 would be the better choice overall but if you want to get something a little cheaper, you can get an is300 for 24k or even a little less now. Lexus dealers are heavily discounting them because they dont sell well anymore. I know because my friend just got one.

But for comparisons sake

G35 pros
280 hp auto or 298 hp 6mt
Very refined interior (05s of course)
More standard features and gadgets
Infiniti reliability and good customer service
Handles like a bmw

Cons
None that i can think of

IS300 pros
Good handling
Lexus reliability and good customer service

cons
Very weak inline 6. Slower than a tsx
Cheap interior compared to other lexus cars
Dated bodystyle

It is not slower than a TSX, and I'm pretty sure about that.

and Add to you con list: 2JZ-GE engine with LOTS of modding potential (if you're into it)... can handle more than 400+ hp with stock internals.

huh?

From Yahoo autos

MSRP:
$29,435 - $30,805

My big problem with the IS was the damn gas mileage. For a not very powerful car it gets amazingly bad mileage. 18/24 out of 215 horses

Handles really well when I drove it though. With an auto it was a dog, however

I had an IS300 in the past, I have a G35x now. I would say the interior of the '05 G35 is nicer than the IS300's, performance wise, the G35 is quicker, but the IS300 is definately more fun to drive hard. Looks wise I like both..They are redesigning the IS300 for '06 you know..

I cant seem to find the article from car and driver right now, but there was a comparo between as is300, tsx, 325i and some other car. The tsx was the fastest i believe.

I'm aware of the potential of an is300. My friend has a turboed one. And guess how much hes spent so far? Thousands and thousands of dollars. Enough to buy a brand new car. Not worth it imo. And for your information the g35 can handle 400hp to the wheels without any internal modification as well
