That bmw was pretty close to stock. I have heard them on it before for a stock one and that car sounded just like a guy I know that lives across the street. Th CL-S will walk a G35 without a doubt after watching these 2 videos. My CL-S stock ran dead even with the M3 E36 on a roll...

 

On the first video, where they are showing off the car, the driver almost lost it around a turn. IMO they are morons for flooring it around turns in those types of conditions.

BTW...That M3 was a manual with exhaust (prob with more mods) vs. a Auto G35. I would like to see a manual vs. manual comparo.

 

Guys I wanted to share my story. I have 2003 Sliver acura Cl type s with headers & exhaust and CAI. I was coming home last night from the gym & up here in Canada we started to get nice weather so I was hammering my car around It was great, & my car was running great. So here I am on the highway 401 & along come this G35 6M behind me so I thought I can smoke this guy. Boy was wrong I lost the whole race by two & 1/2 cars. I did not give up I was going at it for a while but I could not gain the distance between us. I have never lost a race since I owned my car. So we both got offf the nearest exit, & I pulled up next to him & asked him what mods he has done to his car & he said nothing yet. Man was I VEXED. Oh well I still like my car better.

 

Oh if you guys are wondering my car is a 6speed & I do know how to race this was an endurance straight line race.

 

What gear were you in?

 

I was in 5th. I was almost at readline. I ran straight through my gears!!!! I think its time for the SC....

 

If you couldn't hang with the G35, imagine going up against the M3. You would of gotten spanked.

That M3 is definitely not stock, too bad you guys are too stubborn on this board.

 

auto g35 is a pretty good match up for the CLS. I don't know what movie you were watching but that G35 got walked. Walked i say. Once the m3 put it down to the floor the g35 was basically wasting gas. This is one race but don't act like you are driving a formula one car.

 

What gear did you start in? How much weight were you carrying?

Scooby - Stubborn isn't the word I would use - you are more diplomatic.

Torquaholic - you were on the G35 board and pretty much were pretty much laughed off of it. Now you spout your junk here.

The M3 - stock - is around 15 grand more than a G coupe or a CL-S. I have driven all three - the M3 is MUCH faster than either of the G coupe or CL-S. It should be faster with all that extra money in it.

That being said, a stock G coupe will beat a stock CL-S no problems - not the spanking an M3 would give to either, but it will beat it like this

Props to CLTYPESINTDOT - he walked it like he talked it .... and lost. And he had MODS on his CL! And still lost easy - 2 1/2 lengths is a lot class. If he still likes his CL-S more - more power to him. Wish more people would be happy with the car they have, then go around yapping about the car they THINK they have.

Enjoy your CL-S ppl - it's a good car. Just don't expect to play in the fast lane with the G coupe and not get burned!

Just IMO, something is wrong then and this is not a knock against the G35 (they are fine vehicles).

A CL-S6 with those mods will make more WHP than a stock G35; by up to 15 - 20 WHP. They also weigh almost the same amount. Add to that the CL-S6 has great gearing (the G35 does also) and can hold the revs longer in a lower gear; so you should not lose or not lose by that amount.

If it were stock for stock then the it might be different btu still not the amount you mentioned. I'm not calling a false statement; I'm saying your car was weak then or that other car was not stock.

CL-S is not as fast as an M3, period. I've owned both, so stop the bullshit.

Stock vs stock, you guys really don't have a prayer. The only competitive match I see would be an automatic e36 M3 vs a 6-speed CL-S. That might be close.

240hp auto m3 vs 260 hp CL-S, CL-S wins
240hp 5spd M3 vs 260hp 6spd CL-S, CL-S wins

It's obvious by 1/4 times and hp that the CL-S has more.

Two answer all questions my car ran a 14.2 in the quarter, also I had no additional weight in the car. The G35 is a faster car who cares, lets face it it is a 3.5 we are a 3.2. I reviewed that video & let me tell you the G35 was not racing he was not even trying cause I did not hear that engine roar like the one I raced. I have work done to my car and its loud but when buddy punched it I could hear it. All I am saying is our car is less expensive then the coupe and still is almost as fast. I LOVE MY CLS & always will.

 

the best, and I mean best(current issue of car and driver) time out for the G35C6 is a 14.2!! So YOU SHOULDN'T have lost! but then again, when were're talking manuals, driver skill is KEY! :P

How about, instead of watching the G35 lose to modded M3's we go video a stock auto and MT to a stock auto and MT CLS?

Okay, lets be realistic here for a moment, okay?

An e36 M3 (five speed) is capable of 14.0 quarter miles times, bone stock.

Have any CL-S been running that type of time stock (any tranny)?

Also, German horsepower seems to be quite a bit stronger than Japanese horsepower Either that, or BMW consistently underrates their HP figures.

Did you foget about my 99 M3? Obviously an e36 and definitely able to outrun the CL-S.

 

actually I think the key to German cars, specifically, BMW(speed) is:

1. VERY VERY aggressive gearing!
2. light weight cars!
3. I'll give you "a little underated" in the torque arena, but not HP
4. their "double vanos"(variable valve timing), makes peak torque at a VERY low RPM! max toruqe by 2,000rpms, and it slowly tapers till redline!
5. RWD
6. bloated/overrated mag times!
