Funny question by the valet...
I was at a city government function last night with the company executives. Since there is an Equus in the fleet, it was brought out for duty.
At the hotel valet, the guy who was helping me out asked me if it was a Rolls Royce Phantom.

I told him it was a Hyundai Equus and that it's not available in the U.S. yet, but will be soon. He seemed really excited and loved the car. When the valet guys were told that it would sell for $60,000+, they were shocked.
If your local Hyundai dealership has one of the 100 display models in the U.S., go check it out!

never ceases to amaze you, I think you meant.
I have to admit...of late, I too have considered it. Crazy as it sounds...a reputation can't keep you from denying yourself a good looking/driving car.

I saw this at the New England Auto Show when I was out east last month. It's AMAZING! I just wish they'd had it in a color better than goldish beige.
Regardless, I took tons of pictures.

This thing screams out Lexus.

Props to Hyundai they're coming along very nicely. I only wish they would have some more "unique" designs instead of meshing current cars together and call it their own design.

BMW halos + Audi LED running lights + Lexus LS exhaust tips + Lexus LS styling + Lexus naming system + Bentley wheel design = Hyundai Equus.
I'm not knocking the car, in fact I think it is really nice! But I agree with the previous comments that Hyundai should add their own innovation.

Wowa WIWA, I LIKE! This sure beats the Elantra or whatever hatch piece of crap I used in driving school lmfao. I really hate the back end though, now Lexus has a better back end, more trunk work.
I'm sure they will eventually come up with some more unique designs of their own in the future, however, now is not a good timing for them to do so, IMO.
I think Hyundai/Kia are doing what they exactly have to do at this moment. That's why they are doing so well these days.

If real wood is done well it is nice, but I prefer plastic just for general purposes. My experiences with wood interior is that they crack and start to lok like shit.

For those of you claiming that it has the LS460 cues in its design, I must say that it's baseless because I just don't see it. I'm not the only one.
It's also ironic because Lexus has never been famous for its own unique style. If anything, Lexus is more known for very subtle (read boring in some cases) styling and generally following the design trend.
In either case, Fluidic Sculpture is the key phrase of the day. It was officially announced late last year and that is the new design theme and direction of Hyundai. The new Tucson and the Sonata are designed utilizing this theme and the updated Santa Fe shared this as much as it could (keep in mind it's only a mid-cycle refresh, not a complete redesign).
In the future, you will start seeing a common pattern based on a global design theme of Hyundai's own, again, called Fluidic Sculpture.

I agree Lexus has one of the more dull interiors in its class but what's really ironic is that instead of Lexus following the design trend, Hyundai is blatantly following automakers designs and copying them.

I love how Hyundai uses a mishmash of other styles and gets a bunch of flack for not being creative and copying everybody else. When Lexus introduced the LS400 in 1989, everybody gave them crap because they said it looked the Mercedes of the time.
Mercedes started the sweeping roof and small side window trend with the CLS500 in 2004 but yet, I haven't heard anybody else complain when other manufacturers started copying this trait.
I don't think the Equus looks ANYTHING like the LS460 and I've seen both in person within minutes of each other and I can't help but feel that if this car was anything other than a Hyundai, nobody would say anything about its styling.
