Fun Times

So my buddy took his BMW in to the dealership today because his brakes stopped working (literally, he was going 45 and had to use the handbrake) and they gave him a loaner car. As some of you know, it snowed a little today in the Chicago area. Well, he was taking a sideroad and this turn came up. He didn't take it fast or anything, but when he came out of the turn, the car oversteered. For some reason the DSC didn't do anything and he ended up in the oncoming traffic lane. The problem with that was that there was a minivan with a soccermom in it coming the other way. He tried to correct it, but the car started sliding the other way now. So after all this, this is where it ended up.

Yep, I was the only passenger. Took a pretty big chunk out of a tree. The only impact came to the passanger side as you can see. I hurt my arm a little but nothing bad. A piece of glass cut my hand too, but nothing major really.

His insurance will cover all the repairs. It was a 2005 X3 with 4000 miles. Thank god he didn't ruin a good BMW.

At least nobody got seriously hurt and he didn't mess up his own car.

But man, a complete brake failure on one car, and a fishtail with a DSC failure on another?

Sounds like typical BMW.

I seriously don't know how he managed to do that. It's AWD too. Even when I try to do something like that in an empty parking lot while it's raining with DSC on I can't.

One thing that I forgot to mention, there was a trash can sticking out half way in the minivan's lane so the woman coming the other way wasn't all the way in her lane.

As far as the snow, it was little, but didn't stick to the ground much. It was still slippery.
