Fun + Reliable Car Under $10K
Hi all, maybe some of you know me here but I had a TL sometime ago that I loved and modded. I still have it but it's completely stock now and my sister drives it now. I ended buying a BMW 335 after the TL and drove it for a few months before I ended up moving into Manhattan. So another year or so passes, and my landlord decided to knock my building down
I have some a few options.. and one of them is to move out of Manhattan in an effort to save some money. I'm considering buying another used car to get around.. but would also like something fun. I don't drive to work so gas economy isn't a big deal to me. Keep in mind that I've had a TL before so I probably don't want to get into another one..
Let me know what you think of!

Fun + Reliable = Miata. [/end thread]
Mods - move to Car Talk before the Ramblings crowd turns this into the latest in a long of train wrecks filled with sexual innuendo, hilarious memes, and arguing over trivial first-world problems?

My family lives up in the northern parts of the Bronx, public transportation in the area is limited so getting around with a car is more convenient.
Now that it's in Car Talk...
Miata is a great option. If you're into them, maybe an LS1 Camaro and some mods/extra savings. Maybe a Subaru WRX? Though I'd get a quote before trying to insure a WRX anywhere near New York.
Happy shopping!

Umm...duh?
Ever tried blasting through snowbanks in a TL? If you did, I doubt it went well. If you didn't, you're missing out. In this 4WD machine made of 7000lbs of Detroit's finest American steel, a snowbank is not even an inconvenience let alone a restriction.

^not sure BMWs are gonna fit the definition of "reliable"...

Older Miata and WRXs are def options. Also can look at F-bodies and maybe a C4 vette

Will this be a fair weather car only? B/C if you're driving an old RWD in the winter in NY, you're gonna have a bad time (unless you get a set of snow tires).
Normally I would answer Miata... but considering you're driving from Manhattan to the Bronx on pothole filled parkways, I'm thinking more a cruiser would be better. So I'd vote for G35 or a Mini or something. Maybe even a 1G IS300. Only get the Miata if you're going to continue further upstate where traffic is lighter, the roads are better and have some curves
