It would be cool, but these old 6's are pretty heavy. Maybe a old 5 series. Anyway I have to wait a couple years for him to forget about it before I start another project I won't finish.

Guess I'm not building a front bumper for the 2g. Found a deal on a xterra forum for a shrockworks bumper for about 500 dollars off plus my kinda beat stock bumper and got my ass to phoenix. He also helped swap it.Oh and it came with the radiator armor (not installed yet, also bumper not aligned yet, and maybe I haven't washed it in 3 months, and I slept in it and the fabreeze isn't working anymore)

You can feel it somehow being less aerodynamic at 75.

intimidation factor is important though.
Nice, dude...looks great.
My Jeep came with something similar...my boss/friend was like let's fab something cooler...
then he actually saw it and was like, naw...this one is pretty fuckin solid.

After adjusting it and adding the lower radiator guard. I didn't know It came with the bumper and was going to use the one from the hefty fabworks set I got on craigslist, but this one fits the bumpers. It does have a little bend in it I need to bash out.

I also grabbed a couple old daylighters out of my defunct 1980's car mods box. I think they fit in there great. I think I will buy the updated led inserts kc sells for them.

It kinda is a toy now.

The fronty still runs well, but a ses light showed up last time I was on the highway. It's some emissions stuff I think there is a recall on. I don't know if I mentioned it before but the same side exhaust manifold that was cracked when I bought it cracked again. Just more stuff waiting for me to get the 4 post lift installed.

The FX does that!

Well, has not for awhile now but it always happened when there is a major change in temperature and moisture is involved.

the early xterra/frontier had a terrible fuel tank design. The filler neck would rust and the system would lose it's seal. I'm pretty sure that is what's going on as it's a when not if thing.

Your car is just freaking out about being born into the frozen tundra.

And yeah I think I've perfected the changing exhaust manifold skill. I was hoping to move on from that.

I decided to give the volant a 3rd try before I sold it off. I called volant and showed them the picture of the maf mount and they sent me out a new pipe that day.
It failed
So I RTV'd the maf in palce, put hose clamps where volant didn't supply them, bought a different dryflow air filter than the first, and tried again

I'll just never have that super cool intake noise.

I also took a look at those old KC's. they are older than I thought. They don't use the same weather seal as the modern ones so I don't think they can be retrofit, and I don't think I would want to spend the money and not have them sealed up anyway. I'll just order new ones when I get to adding relays and such.

Started up some old projects.

First is my friend's trailer that he bought for a couple hundred after somebody ran it into their garage. It's a bit slap dash, but it's also not mine and it needs to leave my garage.

BTW did you know you could just buy those caps and rivet them in. I didn't then, but I do now. I will forever be angry and my friend will forever be in my debt.

Then it was time to do what I dread. Restart the body work on my truck, the bed specifically. I replaced the front and the passenger side with new metal, but for some reason I thought I could save a buck and just wrestle the other side back into shape. That is a bad idea. I mean it's a original truck bed panel so it was dented up when I got it, but also driving around in high school I used to let me shot put just roll around back there. It's wasn't just dented it was stretched, drooping, and twisted. Oh, also I added mini tubs as the big block ford never got any kind of traction on 295 series tires. Whatever, after a mess of shrinking and sometimes cutting and starting over it's some semblance of straight. At any point I could have just bought a new panel and saved time, but sunken cost fallacy.

Next are the sidesteps. I don't have any real gripes against bondo and fiberglass. As it is the paint job and repairs on this truck are about 40 years old. This issue here is this is structural bondo. The stepside is supported by 3 bolts that go into the fender here. As you could guess the 1/4 inch + of bondo and fiberglass cracked. So now my mission is to re do the repair with as little filler as I can manage.

Good first attempt for me on the passenger side, but I had to beat the heck out of it. I've just started the drivers side and the fit up is already going much better, should go smoother down the road.

Oh, and a xterra update.
I bought a semi fancy scan tool. It's cool. It reads all kinds of things that torque with the nissan plugin won't touch

For instance here it says I'm buying a new abs actuator. Well, really it gave me a code that I could reference in the FSM that said that, but it's better than paying 120 bucks a pop for non standard code reading.

Some days are less productive. Simple oil change.

Lol no, Also now I realize I have to take that bit of armor off every time I change the oil. Time to buy one of those lift oil funnel things.

Then I proceeded to do about 400 dollars or 2 weeks (whichever comes first) of damage to the ford putting it back on the lift. I haven't done something that stupid since I was 16... though it's actually the exact same thing I did when I was 16 in the exact same vehicle.
Backing up to make sure I didn't hit the new fence, swung the front end into a pillar.I was kinda undecided before whether I was going to paint the whole truck or just match the bed and enjoy it for a while. Looks like I made a decision.

I have taken a day to reflect and improve myself because of it and came to a conclusion

This wasn't my fault. The new neighbor put that fence there, my grandpa put that pole there in 1986. If Obama and Bill Gates hadn't started this pandemic I wouldn't have had the time to install the lift in the first place. And everybody knows what Hillary did.

Sorry to hear about that damage to the truck. Shit happens. I broke the front lip on the V this weekend being in a hurry and pulling into space too fast hitting the sidewalk. Been driving lowered cars since I was 17 and never have it anything while parking ever. Shit happens I guess.

Can't wait to see more update on the old Ford. Love old pickup builds. Your metal fab talents as always are amazing.

The minute my new (very used looking) abs unit showed up the old one went into a dead cat bounce. Couldn't make it fail for the life of me sliding around or making emergency stops in sand. Finally today it gave up so I decided to swap em.
The new unit was 170 dollars shipped from ebay. I usually go toward new parts for suspension and brake parts, but a new part from Nissan is about 1300 dollars online and 2100 dollars plus tax at my local Nissan factory lube job. I decided to give it a try because that is ridiculous.

"New" One on the car, turns out it's a easy job, I would gladly do this 10 a few times rather than give Nissan then money.

The old part seems to have a junk yard marking... and the part number only references back to pathfinders, That part is actually 120 bucks like I stated in a previous post. Maybe that was part of the issue. The other option is that Nissan just put a pathfinder part on it and it should have been fine, kinda sounds like something they would do.

\
Part of the reason it's not that big of a deal to do the work is I bought one of those motive power bleeders years ago (from bavarian autosport because I didn't know any better and hate money). Not having to use precious favors just to have a friend pump the breaks is totally worth it.

no faults, acts as it should now... the dash would light up like a Christmas tree before and the abs and vdc/anti slip just would let the wheels lock up/ spin. Hopefully it sticks.

Yeah, Kinda had that thought. Luckily though sand is one of the places where just locking up actually works better than abs. Oh the white xterra in mexico I actually have the abs fuse pulled for that reason.

just did that on a window regulator on the Acura...saved 100 bucks for a reman'd oem one and it worked out great.

More of my friends little no big deal trailer project.
Found the first picture dated 8-7-2017 when he got a abandoned title on a trailer he found on a property he bought.

Moving on from the last pictures in thread, lots of sanding. Also I now call this trailer "lumpy" it's a fitting name.

More filler, I think the previous owner liked to drift sideways in gravel.

More sanding

At some point we decided to add some ramps, so those are there now.

Primer, it finally looks like something!

More sanding

Hmm, is it time to quit sanding?

Nope, more sanding, but on a 6 ft scaffold.

Paint! Rustoleum is like 30 dollars a gallon, so this is that.

Raptorliner Kinda like the way this stuff ended up. It's a urathane so it's a bit more expensive than the cheap rustoleum.

Wiring

More wiring

More wiring,

Annnd, it's gone. May it never, ever, return.

8-7-2020, he's a good friend, this is just what owning a project space is like.

When I finished the wiring today it was 3pm @102 I started early so I could leave before it got to 105.

How do I explain this in words even a Canadian would understand.... If you only did things on days where it was above freezing you wouldn't get anything done all year.
