The Forgotten Acura
I see the same Vigor at the same traffic light about once a week on my way to work when I work days. Always did like that car, but I have to agree with the masses about liking the Legend even more.
Those press shots on the first page make it look a lot longer than it is. The front end bears a passing resemblance to the Aston Martin Lagonda.

i have to admit that i LOLed when i heard "extremely powerful 176hp engine. Luxury items like hand crafted wood and leather" But that is me judging by 2014 standard on a 1990 product.
But the commercials themselves were better than the 2014's. Simple and straight forward with the point vs. the pointless blah blah blah in 2014.

I wish Acura had stuck with the "precision crafted performance" tag. That's exactly what they do, though to a lesser extent, today.
Yup, 176 hp was powerful before tech improved fuel economy enough to bring on the new HP wars.

I liked that tag line too. And it fit the Acura caliper badge quite nicely. Today, I wonder how many know that the Acura badge was inspired by the caliper.

Well.. long story short. My brother-in-law bought it. I was going to but my wife put the kibosh on that (3 vehicles already and she wants a boat), so my brother-in-law needed an inexpensive car. I just hope he treats it well.

Well at least it's still in the family. If he doesn't treat it well, perhaps that will be the time to rescue it..................

My neighbors nephew had one when I was growing up. It was a black Type II 6mt coupe. I fell in love with the car from the moment I set eyes on it.

Update:
So he's had it for over six months, hasn't wrecked it. It needed a bit of engine bay TLC but nothing I couldn't handle. It revs nicely and sounds great thanks to Weapon R intake.
I think the main reasons this car didn't do better is two-fold: Small backseat, I mean cramped almost like a Civic. And the ride, it's firm. It handles nicely, very little body roll for a car of this era. But I can see why Lexus did so well with the ES.

Odd timing that this thread got bumped from last year. I'm on the Vigor hunt right now. As a matter of fact, I'm looking for both a 92-94 Vigor and a 92-93 Integra to round out my early 1990's Acura fleet. The Vigor has to be a 5-speed and my top color picks (in order) are: Arcadia Green, Royal Plum, and Granada Black. I left a note on a really rough one in an apartment complex parking lot two weeks ago and haven't yet heard anything.
216k on the odo, pack of cigs in the center console. It hasn't moved for over 3 weeks but has current tags. I bet it's as rough mechanically as it is cosmetically, but it might make a fun project.

Ken, sounds like you ended up snagging one after all. Congrats.
Agree that it's kind of an under-appreciated car. I have the original dealership sales brochures on it and some other advertising materials. The Vigor only sold around 45,000 units during its 3-year lifespan, as compared to the Legend which sold close to 500,000 during the 10 years it was on sale. This is why the Vig is so rare nowadays, especially in decent shape.
There were some Vigor admirers posting in the comments on this article recently. It sounds like I'm not the only one who's a fan.

Bought one yesterday. 1994 GS 5-Speed, Arcadia Green / Cognac Interior, only 104,000 miles. Drove it 909 miles home from Denver, CO to Scottsdale, AZ yesterday. Having fun with it so far. My full write-up is here:

Fantastic garage, man...
you're a testament to people that convince themselves they need the newest biggest baddest most expensive new car to be happy. They don't.

A few things of note that make me sad about new Acura vs old Acura...
1. The old cars had actual names. Cool names. Forget the stupid letters and numbers everyone uses these days.
2. Manual transmission. Yes. Oh god, yes.
3. Style. Both the Vigor and Legend look like "boss" cars, even twenty years later. Iconically boxy? Yes. Classy? Very. I don't see the RLX or TLX fairing the same.
4. These cars are from an era when saying "I drive an Acura" meant something. Class leaders, sporty yet elegant, fun, practical, flawlessly reliable, etc. what happened?
Spent yesterday working on detailing a bit. The interior really didn't need anything!

My Momma had a 1999 GSR Integra that followed her 1991 Civic Si.
Maybe I'll do the same and do early 90's Hondas!

Either way,
from one enthusiast to another. I have my TL and S2000 and that seems to be a pretty popular combo for people, oddly enough.
