Sadly, U.S. built Toyotas have been shit lately. While Ford is slowly clawing it's way up. Are Fords built as good as U.S. built Toyotas? I dont think so, not yet at least. Cars like the Milan and Edge are positive signs, but they have a long way to go. I say GM is doing a great job competing with the imports. With cars like the Malibu, and all of Cadillacs Lineup, GM is doing great.

There's an interesting rebuttal from Toyota's PR department on the corporate blog. It's worth a read...

Ford touting quality equal to that of Toyota and Honda
Posted Apr 7th 2008 5:57PM by Jeremy Korzeniewski
Filed under: Car Buying, Marketing/Advertising, Ford

The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based RDA Group has found that Ford is on par with top-level stalwarts Toyota and Honda when it comes to vehicle quality. Ford managed 1,284 "things-gone-wrong" (TGW) per 1,000 vehicles during the first three months of ownership this year, statistically matching the two top Japanese brands, which are tied at 1,250 TGW.

Well here's your problem! When all else fails, make up a new metric! And then select the timeframe that best mis-represents the data to make it look good. Then provide backdoor funding of the research through a local (read:vested) consultant!

Ta da!

Actually, all American (and Korean) cars are getting better. Face it, it's 2008, and it is NOT that hard to build a decent car anymore.

The trick is building something the public wants, and we don't want anymore SUVs.
