I doubt that many of you in Car Talk follow this stuff. That's why I wanted to see what you thought. In a world where originality rules, we've run out of ideas. 10" wide wheels on the back of a Civic. It makes my head asplode.

Looks :ghey: to me.

If installing tires that don't fit a wheel properly on a car where the wheels don't fit properly is the new "in" thing, I'm definitely not going to jump on that bandwagon.

So let me get this straight, some of this generation enjoys wearing pants at their knees, some guys like wearing chicks jeans, some like putting things that obviously don't fit properly on their cars. I'm noticing a pattern here...

Must be totally awesome having 4 tires worth more than your actual car...and the fact your going to have to replace them rather quick.

I like when they're flush or a little bit of poke. We have a few really good examples here on Azine. The extreme camber and stretch looks awful. If you browse H-T, VWvortex or NWP, there's so many people that love it.

*EDIT* I had to post that EF picture. That was first time I've seen what one of these guys look like.

I don't mind the stretched tires, but that negative camber is ridiculous.

If that's what it takes to make it to Straight Dope Status, then I guess that's what it takes.

I'd be happy with flush. None of that Mexiflush/poke stuff. A little camber is alright too, but why the hell would you want to ride on your sidewall?

Their rear wheels are wider than MY rear wheels, and their cars probably make less than a third of my car does stock, at the wheels!

I'd love to see how these cars handle on LA rain-soaked freeways.

Aside from the rusted hood.... I kinda like it dunno how I feel about roof racks. Hey.... every generation has its version of curb feelers and Daytons.

This VW on the other hand, looks like its doing its best impression of goatse, at all four corners

Then there's this MR2. C'mon, if you're going to look ridiculous, at least try harder.

What's wrong with the bike rack?

If it's never used and just for show, then yea, it's :ghey: but they can serve a functional purpose.

IMO this fitment/stance is perfect. It probably still handles great too, assuming the coilovers they're using can handle that much of a drop properly. Hella concave =

The lip is too much and not a fan of the eyelids though. Looks like a WRX spoiler too.

WAIT.... I changed my mind. This is perfection. How can I lop off the front end of my car, ditch the engine and suspension and just roll around like this bad boy? HERRA FRUSH, YO!

Those remind me of the dayton "skateboard" look I would see on Oldsmobile 88's from the mid-late 90's.

No, there's nothing wrong if they have a bike. There's a ton of VW/Honda guys using a bike rack as an appearance mod.

That stance looks perfect and with the right coilovers, it probably handles like a dream on the track.

I guess this is coming back. I remember seeing cars like this in the Mid 90's in Michigan, except smaller wheels, and they must have used spacers or something to push the wheels. Looked ridiculous then, look ridiculous now.

I like the whole flush thing but I could never imagine having my car sit like that. It's not practical for daily driving.

The poke thing I don't really understand. It makes the cars look like Hot Wheels

I would love for my E28 to have a stance like that...some day.

I don't mind the rusty hood look so much if the paint was already in bad like that. Some people like that look because it attracts less attention to any mods under the hood. But it looks retarded if the rest of the car is in perfect condition and just the hood is rusty.

hate to break it to you guys, but that JDM stuff you guys all love so much is also one of the biggest contributors to the hellaflush scene. VIP/yakuza cruiser style started in the 80's and 90's and theyve been doing the low and neg camber thing for a while. and.... the bimmer/vw scene have been doing it for even longer. it just hasnt blown up until now. whether or not its functional doesnt matter because we all know it isnt. its for the style and flavor that the individual is trying to attain. yeah sure some people go overboard with it, but.... whats it to you? if thats the look they want to go with then let it be. there will always be people just putting parts on just to put parts on. there will always be people following the bandwagon to do the next "in" thing. but the industry has been like that since the start. you cant deny, though, that the look definitely works for some cars and it's so much better than the autozone chrome fad. in their defense, they could ask all of you guys that buy performance parts and dont race or take it to the track. whats the point?? at least theyre driving around and using the parts they buy. just sayin... and it also gives a whole new look to some cars that you wouldnt think twice about so...
i'm not for the everything in the scene, but i do support it as a style and i leave it at that.... it is what it is.

/thread. let me leave you with some cars to drool at.

vip style

euro style
