First time driving today =D

So I started my behind the wheel driving lessons today. So at 8 one of the driving instructors came and picked me up in an Nissan Sentra. Explained the basics very briefly, adjusted mirrors and such then we were off. It was my first time driving so the first few stops it was slightly jerky because I didn't know the gas pedal was so sensitive. Anyways we drove over to a nice neighborhood with wide streets to practice turning for about an hour. Then he told me to head on over to 3rd street, and from there I drove to beverly hills, practicing my lane switches =D. After that I drove on over to Wilshire and drove back to my house, (passed by an Exotic dealership and saw some Gallardos ) Anyways driving is pretty easy! Tomorrow I start on the freeway =D.

Anyways sorry for the long ass rambling, just been looking foward to this day for a long long time =D.

i did so much stupid shit in the first year that i would never do now before i knew the tolerances of the car, so my only advice is: when you get the urge, do it in a safe(ish) place

also, my first car had PRETTY low tolerances, those peugeots didn't exactly eat the corners for breakfast

congrats

You paid someone to teach you to drive? Why? I taught myself in a parking lot, couple hours and then I drove on the street with my Dad, less then a week later I got really good. That was two years ago.

No, your required to have 6 hours of behind the wheel driving by an instructor, and 50 hours by your parents in order to get your liscense. And yeah, I'll probably be a safe driver, first car will probably be a 89 4 cyl camry so I wont be racing anyone or anything like that. Anyways can't wait for tomorrows freeway driving =D

shyt, when i was with my instructor back then, all we did was drive around my neighborhood. i didnt even get near a freeway or highway when he was teaching me. after i got my license, i was fuking scared when i hit the highway for the very fist time with my dad at around 6:00 p.m on the Belt Parkway in NY. fuking cars wont let me merge in the highway so i decided to decided to punch the gas at a complete stop. LOL

I got my permit last year. I need drivers ED, but I dont really need to take it now cuz I've been driving for along time now. I'm just go to the DMV and take my driving test and get my licsence. I drove on the freeway all the way to Portland and back, my Dad was sleeping both times. I dont speed, or do anything wrong.

I was assuming it was free if you took the course in HS?

my 6 hours were awesome. my first car was going to be a manual, so i put down manual when i paid for the driver's school. i got an old school accord LX with 5speed manual to practice driving in. stalled it a few times, extremely jerky, grinded up a few gears, but its ok! haha. my 6 hours were awesome.. then back into my cousins prelude to tear up the streets in my permit. and after 3 years of driving, no tickets, never pulled over, awesome low insurance, and now i own a TL with mods and still modding. love speed! except i wish i can go back to a manual. i miss my little rsx-s.

Is that how it works now? Every state has some behind the wheel and drivers ed requirement for your license?

Wow, things sure have changed; for good reason Im sure. But back in my day, passing a written test gave you a permit at 15.

At 16, you walked in and took a ride along test with an instructor and another written test. That was it. No time or class requirements. I wonder if the sidewalks are any safer now that they've added all this extra instruction.

They changed a lot of rules. In Washington, you cant have anyone in the car until you have been driving for 6 months. Then after the 6 months, you cant have any friends, only family members. Its gay, but those are the laws.

Welps, today I started to drive on the freeway. Got on the 10 west, and drove to Santa Monica. Practiced turns, and also parking in lines and stuff. Then drove around beverly hills, and then finally drove home. Man that was fun =D. And freeway driving isn't too bad either, was pretty easy =D

Stop saying things are easy, and dont get cocky.

keep alert of what is going on around you and you will do just fine.

saying things are easy and getting over confident are what are going to get you in your first accident quick in los angeles....and in LA its very EASY to get into a bender.

i turned 16, drove around, got my license 1 month later .

could have taken drivers ed to get my senior license a year earlier but i was too lazy, so i just drove extremely defensively after 9 and tried to avoid it.

in the end i dont think it would have been worth it

ah, the joys of driving for the first time. my mom always clenched her fists and banged against my seat back when she was with me and my dad for the first month.

have fun, but remember to BE SAFE. Make sure you make up for the stupidity of others as well as keeping yourself in check. Try to let the privlage settle in before moving on to more aggressive driving. Believe me, im just coming out of your stage, been driving only 3 years, but i feel just as good as anybody out there if not better. I've had to look out for others much much more than I look out for myself. Patience and time buddy

never had an instructor, would have driven me nuts anyways! My uncle just stepped out of the car one day, and offered the driver's seat to me when I was thirteen, and since then I haven't looked back. Went on the freeway late at night when I was fourteen - remeber having trouble with decreasing radius offramps!

Also found out a few weeks ago (after writing down each one) that I've driven about 39 cars since I first got behind the wheel. Pretty cool for a seventeen year old. Sometimes I wonder how I got/still have my liscence after some of the dumb shit I've done!

I've driven 3 cars so far, Nissan Sentra, Acura Legend (steering feels lumpy), and Acura 3.2TL (my fav) =D. I'm doing pretty good so far, I just need more work on backing up, and parking spaces. Other then that I'm doing pretty well, just need more experience.
