Unhappy first accident with the TSX...

was on my way to church, and didn't think about the wet road... i tried to beat out a light but i guess i took the turn too quick, as my tsx understeered into the curve.... i was able to drive it back home, but the damage looks pretty bad.. any inputs on what kinda damage or how much it would cost to fix would be wonderful..thanks..

See, if you had rwd....you may not have understeered so much.
Silly Acura and their FWD designs.

On a more serious note...sorry to hear about your accident....I can't believe you drove it home like that either!!! At least you are ok...and it could have been worse.

Ouch!

What's your insurance deductible - if its only $500, I'd be dialing them up immediately. You definitely have more than $2000 worth of repairs.

The entire suspension looks shifted toward the back. The lower control arm is probably fubared, and you better hope it is because if the LCA didn't give, then all that force went straight to the frame. Take it to a shop immediately. The wheel is the LEAST of your worries right now.

If the frame is bent, yer fuxored.

So much for stability control. Apparently you didn't have a chance to power out of the understeer?

i'd think far from it. A wheel, and some suspension components, subframe....but i doubt all that is enough to total the car.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

How fast were you going, if you don't mind my asking?

And, by all means, have your car towed to a shop that you trust will completely fix your car.

Can't do much with understeer. You can't beat the laws of physics. The best way to correct understeer is bleed off speed, and that's only proportional to the amount of traction available... which he didn't have much of to begin with, and the reason why he went into understeer in the first place.

I would recommend calling your insurance company immediately... because you're looking at repair costs in the thousands.

thanks for all the replys guys, i really appreciated...

and as for why this is on the CARTALKS? well i wanted the input of the whole azine community, not just the TSX community. And whats wrong with this being in the cartalk? arn't i talking about my car?

anyways back to the subject...i really hope that nothing happened to the frame and hope its just suspension work...i will try to get it towed to the nearest place here..i'll keep everyone updated...

I want pics of the underside, and all the broken parts they pull off, I'm curious as to what exactly failed.

Also, pretty amazing you drove it back.

damn that sucks .. I've faced something like that last year, cost around 3100. I was looking at the pics and was wondering how the hell the tire is still containing air.

at least you weren't like me and got your bumper ripped off last week though. :P

Someone was running late to Sunday services... so did you still limp the ride to church?

I've understeered a couple times on wet roads, scary feeling. Get some better wet handling rubber, it'll help.

For now, it's time to ask for forgiveness...

no frame damage! thank God!

the total repair cost would be around $1600, not including the wheels which i think i can provide...if i can find one wheel that is..heh

but im just happy to know that im gonna have my TSX back..

ps...they say that my tire is fine and should be reuseable

Good that there is no frame damage. Are you going through your insurance company?

sounds almost "too" cheap. Where did you take the car? Are they a reputable body shop? I'd go to one recommended by your Acura dealer.

I agree. get a second op. if its not too far off from the original, you're okay. otherwise, be wary.

I would get another quote if it will make you feel better. But if there is no frame damage, and I am looking at those pics right, the damage was mainly the bumper and the wheel. $1600 sounds about right if they are buying you a brand new wheel and bumper.

The wheel list for about $500 and the bumper is probably about $250. That's half on just parts.

Post some better pics if you get a chance.

its actually going to get fixed at my dads friends place, which is trustable..i am also probably not going to go through insurance to advoid later penalties since i am under 25...

as for the above statement, the bumber was not damaged at all, it was just the wheels and the suspension goods..

i did the same thing 2 years ago but i took a turn too fast, oversteered on a patch of ice, over corrected, and slammed into the curb. The front right wheel was fucked up! it looked like i had insane positive camber...
