FINALLY bought a car!
I think if that's something that will always be on Carfax and you plan on keeping the car for a couple years and then re-selling it, there may be an issue. If you plan on keeping it for a long time, then see if you can get the dealership to drop some more of the price and then pull the trigger.
I'm thinking of going fwd with this, Called Acura customer service and they were able to validate. On the disclosure that was signed by Honda, it also gave an additional 12 month warranty. The acura customer service guy says they normally do this, but he also said I'm in good shape because I have the normal 5 year/50k warranty. I'll probably keep the car for at least 7 years or so.....
That sounded shady at first but seeing as it was just headlights and they added an extra yr to the warranty, as long as it is'nt harder to insure (like salvage cars, etc) I think I would bite on that deal

Hey, know this..
as long as the warranty is still there, you have no reason to be worried. If it is indeed a lemon, you will get all of your payment back. Sounds like a good deal to me, although I can see the argument towards the fishiness of it all.

i'd ask the dealer to knock some off the price or reimburse you for flying out there and for gas back home. plus, make sure acura roadside assistance is part of this deal.
would acura send you the actual report/repair ticket for the car?

If it was a headlight issue, how can they lemon something like that? I mean if this truly was the case, the car still is a great deal. Only problem I can forsee is the resale, if you ever plan on selling it later on. The price is really good, but because of this issue, the only way I would go for it is if I got an extended warranty, perhaps to a 100k. Try to negotiate that!
according to the documentation, it was purchased back due to "the issue not cured within a reasonable time" I have all the documentation, so I dont see it being a major issue in the future.... plus I will be keeping it for awhile.

heh. Well, I feel pretty confident about this purchase and the issue was resolved. I WILL keep this car for at least 5-7 years as I have other financial committments that won't allow me to make another purchase for awhile. I'll book my flight this evening and pick up the car tomorrow. I just got the purchase agreement which I don't plan on signing until tomorrow. No way I'm faxing this back with my sig.
For shits and giggles, call your local Acura dealership and ask them to run the vin and do a warranty check just to make sure there will be no problems when you go to the dealer. I know you have the documentation from headquarters, but you can verify it has trickled down to the place you will actually need it.
Give me some more info on the Civic

called a dealership and he looked up the warranty work. Normal software updates, but I guess there were a few which he couldnt tell, but he knew it was electirical. He said that would probably explain the head lights.
Man.... things are looking worse. Looked him up on the BBB.... had multiple complaints. Just seemed really shady on the phone and has been trying hard to convince me that the car is okay... trying tooo hard. I'm having bad feelings about them so I'm NOT going through with this purchase.

jesal, I was waiting for that comment. heh. I Just got home after testing an '07. Didn't seem any different then an '05 and '06 I've seen..... The funny thing is they were trying to first sell me an '06 with 5k miles for 53k because it had "alot of options"
I still want this car, but as F-C said, insticts and something about the specific car in Minnesota just didn't feel right. Take a look at the company, they had 17 complaints in the last 36 months reported on the BBB.

You should be able to get a new 2006 for $44,000-$45,000 easy. On a slime of the earth scale: Used Car dealers/salesman > *Good luck with the car search...some (if not most) of these dealerships can be a real pain in the ass.
WTF... 53K when you can buy a new one for 40K ?? I guess there are suckers born every minute...

Low 40's... even with the tech package:

Other shady things I noticed about this dealer in my last conversation and attempt to make me buy the car:
"We can fix the carfax report, after you buy the car....this wont be on there."
"Dealer by-backs are crazy, we had a car we bought at an auction that the manufacturer bought back because it was missing a page in the owners manual...the owner insisted he didn't want it."
After looking them up on the BBB....The owner of the company is the SAME person who claimed to be a salesman. However, he had to "check with my manager to approve that price you want!" So the owner has to check with someone before he can make a decision?

I'll have to see it before I make a decision...
Here's what I think: if dealer wasn't honest enough to tell you this up front then watch out b/c there might be other problems too. No car for you!

If it was that minimal of an issue he should have stated it up front rather than you finding about it on your own. There are plenty more out in the used car market and if you are willing to travel then that sea of options only gets bigger. Take your time doing your research.
I've driven by this place many times...
...It's basically one of those small time used car lots with about 20 cars on the lot and it never looks like anyone's there...
I know the saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover", but I'd never stop by a place like that...

okay guys, went back to my FIRST choice since this was a bad buy. I've already whored up this thread enough, so I'll waiti until next week to post picks. Basically, it's an '05 RL with 19k miles Carbon Grey exterior and black interior.
I bought it for 33k. I'll do the taxes when I get back to Chicago. I did the carfax myself, one owner trade. It's being sold at a reputable lexus dealership. the old lady traded it in for lexus SUV. They are also tinting it for me 35% all around.

I hope it will be 7 very trouble free years with this RL.
i have heard that before
I said that about my CL. 2.5 years later....CL gone.
