Fender bender

Well my (soon to be) FIL accidently scraped up his Avalon on the side of the garage causing the door to not open. Thankfully all the scrapes were the paint from the garage and didn't scrape the paint on the car.

This morning I went over there and cleaned it up, got the passenger door to open and straightened it out as best as I could.

End result

Wow, excellent work! looks like new (from the pics).

Care to elaborate on how you straightened it and fixed the paint?

Thanks. The pics are somewhat deceiving. There are still some dents left in the door and the fender but my main objective was to get the door open and clean it up w/out being raped at a body shop.

First thing I did was take the wheel off and take off the inner wheel well cover. Once I got into the fender I saw a bent bracket that I straightened out with a hammer. That got a lot of the fender back to normal. The door still didn't open and I actually wrapped a rope around the fender and pulled it out a little more on top and bottom. That got the fender aligned with the door and the door could now open.

The next step was to get the paint off the car. I took some rubbing alcohol and most of it rubbed right off with some elbow grease. Once I got most of the paint off, I went through with a buffer and buffing compound and sealed it up with some wax. Other than some dents that are left, it's like it never happened

We're actually picking up a mirror from a junk yard tomorrow and will be putting it on. The mirror part cracked and the casing did also.

Thanks!

Put in the new mirror last night. His cousin owns a junk yard so getting parts isn't too tough. Got one in great condition, same color. Everything is all done.
