Exclamation federal safety label replacement

Hello there. I am having a problem registering a Canadian car down here in California because my car's federal safety label is worn out and part of the VIN is missing. It's the sticker/label on the body/chassis of the front driver door. The car was previously registered in the US, but California DMV supposedly requires this label to be intact despite any previous registration in the US.

Has anyone ever had this replaced? I tried calling various Canadian dealerships, but they all couldn't help and said this sticker is irreplaceable. The last bit of hope I have is a rep from Acura Canada Client Relations trying to figure it out.

only update I have so far, is that I have to drive 20+ hours one-way to a Canadian dealership with the car just to get a replacement order put in. They wont take payment over the phone, and wont let a local dealership coordinate with a Canadian dealership to get me one. I contacted them on Acura Canada's facebook page, and will see what happens next.

It's almost like buying a car out of your own country is more trouble than it's worth I hope you at least got a really good deal on it.

Go to or call your nearest CHP office and schedule an appointment for a VIN verification with the VIN officer. If he can verify your VIN, then he can give you a form to take to DMV for registration.

Note: there is a second VIN number on the dash board located at the left or right lower front corner of the windshield.

I would have thought the one by the window AND on the firewall would have been enough, but apparently it's that sticker in particular they are looking fo . Doesnt make sense because it's already been U.S. registered, so just that should have been enough proof to register it... but nope! I'll try calling CHP and see how that goes, thanks.
