family got a new 2005 RL!
on the way home for winter break two weeks ago, my family stopped by the dealership to check out the car. as return customers, automatic $1K off so after 6 months of car-shopping and test-driving, a 2005 RL in Celestial Silver / Ebony is now sitting in our garage at home. ALL FOUR RL'S SOLD OUT THAT DAY
ok enough talk, here's some pics...
here's my impressions:
exterior: i dunno why all the magazine editors say it's boring to look at it, i think it's quite sexy, sporty and classy all at the same time. the lines all flow together, unlike a lot of cars out there. the projector HID headlights turn with the car, and circular LED taillights look great from behind.
interior: i felt like i was sitting in a spaceship. bluetooth, xm radio, navi, onstar, 10ch 5.1 surround system (sounds very good), dual climate control, and real-time traffic analyzer (find out where the high traffic areas are). the coolest part of it all was voice recognition for the climate control and navi, 500 understood commands? wow. i like the design of the interior, everything feels right. things were pretty intuitive to use (at least to me, maybe less so for my parents). i like the blue mood lighting placed in the foot area, and in the roof in front and back.
intelligent key system? i feel so lazy now just keeping the keyfob in my pocket, press the little dimple on the door handle and it lock/unlocks the doors. start the car without the key. hit the unlock button instead and the seats/steering wheel/mirrors all motorize simultaneously while the climate control and audio settings are remembered. too cool.
driving: i got to drive it a couple times, and man... this thing is ROCK SOLID. i flogged it a little bit in sharp turns and it feels like it rotates the tail like RWD. no pushing and floating whatsoever. same thing in snow, i could not get it to spin, it would just grip and go like nothing was there in the first place. i almost couldn't feel the big bumps in the road either. the 4 piston brakes stop this thing HARD. 300hp gets it going pretty quick, it just doesn't feel like 4000lb car. oh and the paddle shifters are neat feature as well, i felt like a F1 driver
what a great car, me likey

If the tranny is rock solid, I will pick up a used one in three to four years. i like the fact that not even navi is an option, but it is all standard. I think that will scare away alot of older buyers tough, but this should hit the baby boomers perfectly.
Congrats!

Very nice, despite what some people say about the styling.......the RL is doing very well for Acura. A few reasons are that it has fairly conservative nice styling which appeals to RL buyers and the AWD is a big selling point.
I do agree, Acura should do a premium coupe (with real back seats)......something in the $40k-$50k range. A 6spd would be nice, going back to the old Legend coupe days.

they were also looking at the 2006 lexus gs and 2006 mercedes cls, but decided they couldn't wait that long. hence the rl
