My mother was issued a ticket for Unregistered vehicle. It expired a fews ago on Sept 2008. I could've sworn I sent payment in for the renewal, however, for the rare instant that I didn't I am asking you guys this question (maybe someone's been through it before). What's messing with me more is that I moved residences between Sept and Oct 2008, but I had all mail forwarded a week beforehand.

Given the short span of time that's past and no other infractions on the registration, would it be possible to simply go to the DMV, get a whole new registration and show that to the courts and get the ticket waived? Do you believe legal counsel should be present at the time?

In the state of NJ, I believe the fine is a few hundred bucks? correct me if I'm wrong.

 

Not sure about the fine but I have heard that the mail won't forward registration or license renewal reminders. I could also be wrong.

Even if you get a new registration it will have a date after the ticket so I think that method won't work.

 

Was the payment a check? If so, has it cleared? If it did, there's your proof.

 

I would think if DMV received payment, it would show reg as current. If not, pay it and go to Court to explain. Judges are not all A-holes.
