if you have the full episode, you'd find out that the NSX-R lapped about 0.5s faster that he evo. Anyways, the JDM evo is so much faster than the USDM one.
In case you want to see the whole video, it is the October 2007 episode.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I read that in multiple articles before, but I'm not sure how, possibly ECU differences and U.S. smog requirements, but I'm not exactly sure. I'm confused how they named it a Evo IX MR RS, but doesn't it have the same engine as the IX GT?
It was the Mine's 350Z that crashed, not the NISMO Z. They strip their cars of ABS to save weight, but it screws the driver most of the time.
Never drove a GT3 before but the driver seemed to be shifting relatively slow to how I usually see those guys drive. Of course it should have won, as a matter of fact it has the most power and probably handles even better than the NSX.

Even with better drivers, the Zs would have still been last.

woooo!!
I think with 1 or 2 more laps, the finishing order would be same as the lap times -> GT3, NSX-R, Evo9, Z. Nonetheless I am impressed with the Evo's best lap time.
On a side note, Tsukuba is an awesome track... would love to take my S there in the future

in a slalom test. The Z is way more powerful than the exige and its more setup for a road course anyways. So I would expect the NISMO to be somewhere between the EVO and the Exige somewhere.
Wish they would hurry up and test the darn thing.

but in the end, the US Evo was still 70kg heavier than the JDM GSR model due to the installation of anti-intrusion bar at the front of the car meeting safety requirements.
Later though, ACD became standard and hp and torque became 286hp and 289lb/ft, but still no AYC.
In other words, earlier USDM Evo was much slower than the respective JDM model, but later it improved, but still lagged a bit behind the JDM model.

In July 2007 of Best Motoring, The Nismo Z was as fast as the new Civic Type R on Tsukuba, which is still pretty good for the Z, considering the Type R is capable of beating even NSX-S-Zero, Lancer Evo 6, RX7 RS, R34 GTR on Suzuka.

those are 2 different episodes with 2 different drivers.
Newest episode, November 2007, they tested a lot of cars in Sugo this time, Civic Type R, Modulo Civic Type R (Civic Type R with bodykit), and Nismo fairlady Z, they all got 1:44.5 to 1:44.7. For comparison, they also tested LP640 (1:37.8), Gallardo Spyder (1:40), XKR (1:46), Lotus Exige (1:43).
Just a reminder that all of these drivers are professional drivers.

Yea, I see. The Nismo is pretty fast and with a better driver probably could have stayed right with the Evo. I'm hoping they take it on Nurburgring sometime soon!

Nurburgring lap times are with only 1 car on the track. In Best Motoring they race 6 cars on the track at the same time and the more powerful, better performing cars are placed at the bottom of the grid. Plus they usually run on Tsukuba which is a pretty technical course... only 1 straightaway, hence the closer lap times.

I have a feeling that Nissan deliberately made the 350z a slower car so that it won't threaten the GTR. Remember, when 350z was first introduced, the R34 GTR was still in production, it wouldn't make sense if the cheaper 350z is faster than the R34 GTR. In Japan, the top (as in fastest cars) are still the Evo, STi, GTR, NSX, RX7, while the "2nd division" cars are cars like the 350z, S2k, the FWD Type Rs, RX8, etc.
