Ever see one of these?
I saw this car from across the parking lot and could see that little glimmer of chrome in the engine bay. The strange part is there shouldn't be anything that close to the opening. Now admittedly this 914 looks like an absolute piece of
but let it be a lesson everyone, beware of the orange
because it just might

So what is that chrome thing? Any guesses? I'll wait

Yeah, it's the Moroso filter on top of the built 302 ci he stuffed in there. I actually have a little history with this car. I saw it disabled at a rotary and stopped to help him push it to a better spot. When I asked what it was doing and he said it lost oil pressure. He popped the hood and I'm looking down counting the header pipes off the engine and when I got to 6 and saw more I had to ask what the hell he had in there. Apparently it's a relatively common swap. Pisses of the Porsche purists because the balance is gone and the weight increases substantially, but I'm sure he's pissed off a few big block muscle cars at the drag strip too.
Sorry about the crappy pic of the engine, there's not much space to shoot through.

I suspected something like that when I saw the round air cleaner housing peeking through just below the rear window. The Moroso valve covers signify that it isn't the original 4 cyl. VW engine in the car.

Common swap going back to the 80's. There's good conversions and definitely bad conversions. Renegade hybrids has been doing them for a long time.

Cool find. I was searching for 944 sbc swaps and found some guy who put IIRC an LS1 in a 914, and some of the Porsche purists were screaming blasphemy. It was pathetically hilarious.... you just can't deny the awesomeness of something like that unless you're blindly biased. Whether or not you think GM or Ford are inferior brands, a small block V8 in anything smallish and RWD is awesome.

That's cool (I guess), but where's the radiator ??
Never been a big fan of swapping an aircooled motor for a waterpumper tho'
Yanking a 4 banger and dropping in a V8 is fine on a water cooled car tho'...
A 6 cylinder (911 - 3.6L) aircooled conversion would have been a more expensive option...
They did sell about 3000 factory 914/6 with 2.0L 6 cylinder aircooled engines...

I'll eventually get a mid-life crisis car, but I'm just killing time searching for stuff to get a feel for real world prices...
Example: I've got this saved on myebay, but it's not like I'm going to buy one anytime soon...

I really need to get off my ass and put my bus back together too, before I can buy something else... and/or get my brother to sell his supercoupe that's taking up the other spot in the garage.
933 is a pipe dream (as is a 72 or 73 911)... a Late 70's early 80's SC or Carrera is probably more realistic, but the thought of spending 12-20K on a 20-30 y/o car makes a older s2K look very attractive...
