Estimate for ATF change, thoughts?
Estimate for ATF change, thoughts?
Hey, guys I am wondering if this may be too much or on average or too low(that its considered shady work for cheap price). I know about the DIY so save me the 'just do it on your own' comments please. I am no where mechanically inclined or have the tools/time or wish to buy the tools. So I know I am taking the risk to let a shop work on my car and something bad happening.
I called 3 highly recommended mechanic shops by reviews and family members regarding the ATF fluid change.
First two shops have 2 methods, a Flush or Drain/Fill.
The Honda indie shop is 1x3 Drain/Fill.
VS.
Local Dealer $70, 1X3 Drain/Fill
2 are Auto Mechanic shops that work on Foreign cars Only:
Quoted $50-60(Drain/fill) w/supplying my own fluid.
-$100 using their ATF
-Flush is $180 {said flush gets all fluid out}
1 Perry's Honda Independent shop:
Quoted $50
Includes: 1 Drain/Fill of Honda ATF DW-1
Local Acura Dealer:
Quoted $69.95
Includes: 1 Drain/Fill of ATF DW-1.
QUESTIONS:
So looking at all these prices and how they all range. I am leaning towards the Honda indie shop, but what is the intervals between each drain/fill.
e.g. first 1x3,
than what 2-4 weeks or miles in between?
Other threads on this topic are long posts and reading through comments I am not finding in between each drain/fill how long do you drive the car before the next.
So I can know if I should do at least a 2x3 at one time, if that's a possibility. Would be great to get more of the old Z-1 out.
Plan to also get the 3rd and 4th pressure switches done on the second or last drain and fill, recommended?

Fixed.
You can do the 3x3 all in 1 day. That's what most of us did. I just drive around the block and make sure that I went though all the gears. You can put the switches on whenever too, they aren't affected by fresh tranny fluid.

I would say to wait at least 100 miles if you have more than 30K on the current fluid in your car. That'll give it time to mix and you can gauge the reaction that the trans has to the new fluid as sometimes the old fluid is the only thing holding the transmissions together. Since you have a 3G TL, also replace the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches.
As far as pricing, see if they can give you a better deal if you pay for a 3x3 where you will be back again like maybe 120 for a 3x3 or 100 for the 3x3 provided you bring your own fluid.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T FLUSH YOUR TRANSMISSION!

I wasn't going to get a flush since that's a big no no, from what others have stated in previous threads, so drain and fill for me.
Well I will ask to see if thats a possibility since it is appointment based and depends if they can allow me to take the car than come back after a certain mileage.
Well I believe the fluid hasnt been changed since she bought the car, so I will expect it to be very dark since I'm at 118k miles now. I am sure I need to drive at least what you recommended 100-130 miles in between the new fluid being added. but I will see what the Honda indie shop tells me if we can make that arrangement. but all depends on appointments and see if they can do it over the course of 2 weeks. Thanks.
NO TRANNY FLUID FLUSH FOR ME!!
