It prevents the engine from moving around a little.

Apparently they do help, meaning not rice.

 

i've seen these used on old muscle cars, they reduce the shaking the engine has in order to keep it more stable and help the motor mounts.

 

this model says civic / accord / mr2 - think it'll fit a 1gen cl ?

Yeah, f-body guys that dont want the rattles and vibrations from solid motor mounts put these things on their rides. I really dont see how a low tq motor could benefit much from it, but a high tq motor that twists the body of the car will benefit.
