Nice mods. Have you run it at the 1/4 mile? If not, why not.

I'd be happy just to own either.

lol, havent got the chance to yet...hopefully soon before it gets too warm. from ~60 to 130mph, i held off a SL55 with a 1/4 car lead at the end on the highway ....i think my dyno numbers are low.

either car would be sweet to own but here's my take on the E55 vs new M5 V-10.
the E-class's styling I like a lot. one of the sharpest cars on the road. however MB's quality has been sliding the last few years.

new M5. the styling is good but I don't think as good as the E class. however the good news is the quality is a better than MB.

my vote goes to the M5 V-10.

oh, how I love the new BMW M5. The E55 AMG is great, but in terms of overall performance, the BMW M5 has its number. Any idiot can slam on the gas of a 5AT and let it rip down a straight, but only the best can weave through corners with ease.

How many idiots would cross-shop the M5 and the E55?

Who said the E55 is comfortable? The suspension is pretty stiff. Over choppy roads, the ride will follow suit. The seats are excellent and if you've ever driven one you know it's no slouch at the track.

What irks me about the new M5 is that BMW thinks they won some kind of dick measuring competition by giving the unreleased M the "magic" 100hp/liter signature ratio & having it be "500 hp" so it can enter that retarded club & "beat" the E55. I'd much rather have 450hp/450tq than the 500/383 that they have now, and it's very obvious that BMW sacrificed tq figures to massage that hp figure to 500. And if BMW thinks their dick is bigger than MB's, they're so very mistaken. The E65 AMG is more than a rumor at this point and that thing will blow the doors off the M5.

Will the E65 be overkill? Sure.

Should BMW have tried to go for a better balance of hp/tq with their new 5.0L V10? Yep.

Are the AMG E-class and M-powered 5-series great cars? Yes.

Can you go wrong with either? No.

What the fuck did you expect? BMW has been known for building track engines, therefore they have a higher top end and no torque.

Like you said, two different animals.

And a E65 would be rediculous. A v12 in that car would handle worse than it already does with the added weight in the front. Not to mention the size of the rear tires needed to put down such power would also kill the handling.

addendum: so as I'm driving near and behind these cars, I just can't help but be dumbfounded at the thought that such a relatively normal looking Mercedes, driving normally in front of me, has 604 hp and 738 ft-lbs of torque propelling the rear wheels.....

Insane. just insane. Unfortunately neither of them got on it.

I was talking about the contest that exists between BMW and MB and how BMW succumbed to producing a marketing figure as opposed to a well balanced engine, but okay.

Horrible pictures, hahaha.. it's the thought that counts, though. Working in Malibu I see SL55s and the occasional 65... it's tough to fathom how much power those things put out without being in 'em.

heh.. I forgot the proprietary "sorry about the cell phone pics" disclaimer... funny how the terribleness of the pics make them more authentic
