Exclamation Driving in Ireland

I was in Ireland last week... I knew I had to drive on the opposite side of the street... but when they gave me a car with a steering wheel on the right side, I freaked out! Seven days later, after driving for 2220 km (1400 miles) -- yes, I like to drive -- I can say it wasn't that difficult. I left the road only about 6 times during my trip... and I'm proud to say I never drove on the wrong side of the road, or hit anything larger than a curb.

The only downside of the trip was a rock that struck the windshield and set me back EU$227. I checked out my insurance paperwork... it appears AMEX doesn't provide car rental coverage in Ireland (paid for rental with AMEX), and my trip insurance policy has a deductible of $500. Darn...

Nice scenery!! That C4 appears to be an ergonomic disaster. ( :shakehead @ the French)

Awesome! I've been to the Cliffs and to Dublin. I'd like to go back someday.

Its still "left-and-up" for first gear? How many times did you engage the wipers trying to signal?

Its Gaelic, the official Irish language. All signs have both languages, except in some portions of the west which only have Irish.

Yeah, the gears are the same... thank god!! My only complain is that the reverse didnt have a button and wasnt far aprt from the rest, so sometimes I shifted into reverse, and the car went into 4th -- kind of weird.

The wipers and signal controls are also the same.
