While I don't think it has been "confirmed", I think everything points towards Acura dropping the "S" badge.

TL
TSX
RL
MDX

The only one left is the RSX-S...

For the time being, I think Acura is dropping the Type S. However, i don't see Acura being competative without engine options so look for more powerful engines in the next couple years (with or without the "Type S" badge).

Heck, the first TL didn't have a Type S but it came eventually...

I read earlier that Acura would be dropping the S badge for its mid luxo line.

My local newspaper did an article on the 04TL and said they are patiently awaiting the "S" version
I think it will happen, they just want everyone to be happy with the current TL then the will release the "S" and grab some more of the market

I think they will go for more benz and bmw way...different engines with additional sport package...such as A-Spec. "M" package on bimmers and "AMG" package on benz...not AMG line-up.

Like i said before. The only reason acura made that statement is for guys that want to buy the 6 speed or a-spec tl to buy them now. Anyone willing to buy the six speed or shell out a couple of grand on an a spec, will be willing to wait for a type s to come out. Then acura will not sell as many tl's as it wants, because quite a few people will want the more powerful engine. Its marketing. They are in it to make money. Mark my words, even if they dont bring bakc the tl-s they will have a more powerful motor in the future.

I agree with you. The TL will have power options in the near future. But they can't make the current FWD platform any more powerful so it will either be a more powerful engine and VTM-4 or the IMA system. Either one seems possible considering Acura already stated the next RL will not be FWD...so it has to be one of these systems.

Don’t forget people, this is the same company that SWORE that there would be no manual Tranny in the CL back in early 2000.

I have that Motor Trend and when they made that comment they weren't saying it was a definite or even a possibility, just something they wanted. Amazing how a statement can be twisted around.

There's no way they'll put even more power to the front wheels of the TL and if you're talking a Type S with AWD, increased power and likely most of the A-Spec goodies you're talking about a car that will run you over 40K easily.

It really is sad that they chose A-Spec over Type S. On the bright side, I doubt you'll have to worry about anyone stealing a lame A-Spec badge!

If they go with AWD they will NEED an 8 cylinder engine. AWD would push the car closer to 4000lbs. I bet they still would keep the 60/40 weight balance too.

I can't wait until I see a Civic or Integra with an A-spec badge.

They should be doing a complete A-spec package...we installed one on an RSX-S today. Consists of a body kit, wing, rims, tires, springs, struts, shift knob...all totalled like $4500 extra.

I thought the vtm-4 in the MDX didn't add any significant extra weight. and if they do use the IMA configuration the added weight of the electric motor is more than accounted for with the additional power it creates negating the need for a 8 cyclinder engine. Not to mention that this would probably bring the car closer to a 50/50 distribution with the electric motor located in the rear (powering the rear wheels).

This is all speculation of course.
