Do you tip your mechanic?
I tipped the guy who did my lift and wheels $20 last weekend, but that was because he came in on a Saturday he was supposed to have off to do it. I'm going back tomorrow, wondering if I should tip him again.

Like I said though, not your dealer mechanic... I mean if you go into a performance shop and had work done... custom exhaust, suspension, etc.
I figure if I'm dropping a grand or more on parts, an extra $20 to the mechanic doesn't make much of a difference to my total cost, and having that guy on my side can't hurt.

I've never had any performance stuff done to my car, so no. Whenever I do take my car in for maintenance, all I ever talk to is the service writer.
I did write a letter to Firestone commending several employees who stayed late one night to replace a tire I fucked up. They were 100% nice about it the entire time. And whenever I get good service somewhere, I always go back, and make it a point to recommend it to friends. I figure that's tip enough.

3rd gen TL windshield is expensive as shit. The windshield on my integra was 215, I paid 650 for the TL. Most estimates were nearing 800 bucks.
I've only been tipped twice, once for rushing a job for a guy who had to get his trailer wiring fixed in under an hour, and once for moving a guys basic oil change ahead of another car.
Cookie, donuts, and coffee are a little more frequent and are always appreciated.

depends. I did last time, cause he wasn't going to charge me for fixing a leak from a bolt that he forgot to tighten in my radiator last time. But he also steam cleaned the under side of my car, and I felt bad since he was going to do it all for free.............plus my car is a bitch to get on a lift, cause it's way too low
but usually no.

We don't pay $20 to get into the clubs down here and the dances are worth the tip because when I am done with em they are sweating like pigs and need a shower. So i tip a little.

This morning I got an exhaust and an intake installed. How much do you think the 20 year old kid out in the garage gets paid out of the total cost? I guarantee the sales guy and the shop manager get paid more. Anyway this kid was bustin his balls out there, so I threw him 10 bucks. I guess not tipping is the norm, because he was pretty surprised. He was happy, I was happy, its all good. Good karma at the least.
I tip a bartender $1.50 on a $2.50 drink, I don't think its so absurd to tip a mechanic $10 or $20 on a thousand dollar or more job...
when i use my local mechanic i pay the head guy and tip the guy $10 that accually worked on my car. but i would never tip anyone it the dealer. when i use my local mechanic i usually have money left in my pocket cause he charges so little lol.
Never had my car worked on so the situation never came up.
I did tip the guy at the parts counter once. He got one of the mechanics to put a bushing in a part and I kept bugging him cause it took longer than I expected. Gave the guy a 20 and now whenever I go in he always is willing to go out of his way to help me.
