Do u guys know the labour rate for VW?
The VW engine light is on, so I went to the dealer to check the car,
and they asked a minimum price: Can$70 bux (half an hour labour)
for just checking it. Do u guys think it is too much?

Yeah seems pretty ok. Mazda 85.00 hour, Porche 160.00, BMW 120.00, Ferrarri 240.00, Jaguar 110.00, Audi 100.00,
Loutus was pretty high too... But i am asuming for regular cars, i would say round 70-90 bucks an hour.

Where you located?
You can ask the audi or VW forums for a VAG scan if someone has one locally. Most of the people who have them dont mind scanning other cars for free.
Or find a VW tuner near you, they all have the full version VAG to check your code.

a lot of times, at least with the three different shops ive worked at, the CEL is a flat charge...
but, as this thread is moving more towards labor rate in general...yeah if they are going to work on your car for 140cn an hour you can probably find better

Just go to one of the large part store chains, they do free OBDII scans, the hope is they sell you the part to fix it. VW's often through misfire and EVAP. codes for no particular reason, they also throw a lot of catalyst eff. and O2 related codes - but I'd go as far as saying 85% of the time its just a glitch. In any case here is a list of all the codes broke down by code number, in case their code scanner is a piece of shit http://www.3dzubehor.com/pages/howtodtc.html
For what its worth you can buy a fairly nice code scanner for what they are charging you to do once.
