Thumbs down Discount Tire

Small rant here. I took my car to the local Discount Tire two weeks ago when I got a flat, and they told me my other rear tire was ten years old and needed replacing. I said whatever it needed to be replaced anyways. The cheapest tire they can give me was $188 a tire with replacement certificates, all the usual crap. Well I get my car back and they had scratched one of my wheels, about 3" long around the outside edge.

Come this past Friday I took my car in so I could go ahead and replace my two front tires as well. Somehow now that it was urgent that I get them replaced it was only $160 per tire installed plus the replacement certificate. Annoyed about that I figure I'll just pay up and be happy to have new tires and just hope they last me a decent amount of time. Well they finally finish and I get in my car and head straight home. Once I'm in my garage parked a notice that there is a scratch around nearly half of my wheel. I immediately call them up and just tell them they need to let their techs know to be more careful that I did not appreciate them damaging my wheel. The manager I talk to tells me to bring my car back in, and I tell him I can't until tomorrow.

So I go in Saturday morning early on, one of their techs comes out to take a look at my wheel. He says flat out that it was curb rash, that their machines/techs didn't damage my wheel. I tell him my wheel was in perfect condition before I brought it in, and me being anal about my car I would know if I had done something stupid. He goes on to say that I must have hit a curb between the time they put the tires on and the time I brought it back. I fully understand how I could get curb rash with low profile tires that didn't end up on the face of the wheel itself, just the edge.

Anyways, I am very unhappy with Discount Tire, my family has done $2000 worth of business in the past year alone with them, and we have been going there for the past 12 years. They're supposed to call me tomorrow morning and let me speak to the manager I spoke to. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Never had a problem with DT. I've only been using them for the past 2-3 years. Have purchased 3 sets of tires from them over that period.

Go to the Tire Rack and get them online. They will be cheaper. Plus you can then take them to a garage you trust for mounting.

Hmm. Usually DT is cheaper and being there is one local, I do not need to wait for shipping. In the instance where TR was cheaper, DT matched the price.

Wow, terrible customer service Taffeta. Instead of discussing it with you, they just flat our blame you! They don't even try to accept partial responsibility....

I've only had outstanding, above and beyond, sevice with Discount Tire. In fact most times I walk out of there saying it's hard to believe what a quality experience I had there. Sucks you had the complete opposite.

DT is always nice to me here. I've been there often enough so they usually work on my cars immediately. I sometimes bring them coffee and stuff. Really nice folks here at this one, especially the manager who owns a 70's Vette!

Well they called me this morning, apologized for how their techs treated me when I went in on Saturday and said they've ordered me a new wheel, and that it should be in by 2PM this afternoon. Just about the best ending I could have hoped for, I will say the whole ordeal was more an exception than a standard, as I've never had issues with them in the past. Now lets hope they order the right wheel since they didn't bother asking me which one my car had...

If you bring in a price from Tirerack do they match it? I did and they said "Oh did you include shipping as well?" The price from Tirerack was about $20 cheaper a tire and they wouldn't honor it.

As mentioned above... mine matched it . It may vary by location. Ours seems to be run really well which is probably why I've never had a problem.

I have not had any problems with Discount tire. I always get my price from Tirerack including shipping and they beat it by 10 bucks. They do charge extra for mounting and balance so I say I will buy the warranty if you drop the mounting and balancing and they do it. One time discount scraped my dads wheel on his 98 accord and they had the alloy wheel repair guy come out and re-finish it. Looked brand new.

I just called the regional office which oddly enough is about two minutes from my house... Anyways, they said it is a store by store thing with price matching, and that they can opt not to do it at all.

I've had them price match Tire Rack plus a few other places that were even cheaper than Tire Rack without a problem (e.g. http://www.discount-tires-2go.com and https://www.onlinetires.com)

Been going there for years; great service. I just got some tires there yesterday. Not in stock, so I won't get them until later this week, but they matched the price I could get them for online. I've recommended/sent many people their way, too. They've been pleased, as well.

OP must've just gone to the wrong store . Not all stores in a chain are the same.
