Depreciation of CPO vehicles?

I am wondering if CPO vehicles have worse depreciation/re-sale values than those that only had one previous owner? I happened to see a relatively lightly used 2007 BMW CPO vehicle at a great price - I love their extended warranty period and the much lower price than a brand new similar vehicle. However, I am wondering if I get one now, then when it's time to sell it, will the re-sale value be much lower since it will then have had 2 owners? Or does it not matter?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

think about this: if you sell it w/ the ext. warr. still intact, how can that possibly be a negative? I have a 530xiT I bought CPO and would do it again in a flash. My warranty is good till 2012 for CPO 2006 and the amount of work I'll get done on the car FREE cannot be compensated for IMO.

Thanks for the advice!

Chief F1 Fan, this vehicle is one year old, and on CarFax it was listed as a "corporate fleet lease". It has just over 10,000 miles, and the record is totally clean. The listing price is quite a bit lower than the original price. I did not expect that for a 2007 model. I wonder if it's just because it's a slower selling model (a sport wagon)?

I also wonder how much lower I can negotiate the price for a CPO vehicle?

It's all so tempting! :-)

BTW, I am experiencing a moment of 530 xiT envy here... :-)

I would love to get a CPO 530 xiT but all the ones in my region don't have navigation, which I really want to have....

BTW, do you have navi in yours? How do you like i-Drive? Is it really as notorious as it sounds?

if its a corperate lease fleet, then it might have been a rental car prior. These rental cars get beat the hell up. I personally would only buy one if I got a full extended warranty with a 0 deductable for free and the car at a great price.

I take it CPO in this thread refers to Certified Pre Owned?

Thanks for the great advice! The vehicle was a corporate fleet lease as stated on Carfax. The interesting thing is that this 328xiT is an 07 model year with only just over 10K miles, and it's loaded with all the goodies that I don't expect a corporate lease to have, including premium package, convenience package, navigation. A brand new 07 328xiT with the same equipment is listed for $44K, and yet the price of this one is just under $37K, and it's CPO with the usual extended warranty.

Do you think that this is a good price for such a vehicle?

Yes, CPO stands for Certified Pre-owned in this case.

ostrich,
i'd be leery about getting a corporate lease vehicle, even if you are saving 7 k. shop around and you can get some better deals. or how about getting a year-end discount on leftover 07 5 series that ais not pre-owned? you should be able to get a good deal since technically the 07s are 1 year old models already.

for example, i picked up a 2007 carrera s which is 5 months old and has 3000 miles on it. sticker was 93 k, i got it for 76 k. there's still 3.5 years left on the warranty so i don't care if it's cpo or not. carfax and dme report were both spotless.

my other option was an 07 "new" basalt black targa which stickered at 100 k and was discounted to 85 k. i was deterred by the low resale values of targas and the fact that a panoramic glass roof would suck ass here in the tropics.
