Decision Time 2012
Decision Time 2012
Decison time for a new lease. Unfortunetly its not for me. My dad's lease is up on his 2010 Lexus LS460. He thought he was going go with something cheaper and was looking at the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 sedan but we also test drove a few others yesterday.
These are the current options:
2013 Lexus LS460-$77,000
2012 Jaguar XJ-$78000
(The dealer also has a 2012 XJ with 800 miles as a demo car and are offering it for $67,000 with almost same options as the $78000 car)
2013 Hyundai Genesis 5.0-$48000
What would you guys pick?

pics of xj not working for me :/
anyway, my vote goes with xj.
If its a lease it will be within warranty so you dont really need to worry about reliability.
And i'm not a fan of lexus's new face haha
...although i'm not a big fan of the xj's rear
I havent read much about both cars, but i can bet if your dad wants comfort the ls is probably unmatched. But if he wants something different xj.

I don't know what exactly you dad is looking for (looks like a nice executive car) but I do have a few suggestions that vary across the spectrum to consider! Also note that this is just generalized ideas since I'm not sure if your dad is a gearhead or if he just wants point A to B, etc.
BMW 750i, you can get a LOT of MSRP (almost 7-10K most of the time) and have it equally equipped as the Lexus, but with better gas mileage and you can get some good lease deals with BMW as well! Plus more POWER 445HP!!!!
MB E350, an amazing car all around that looks to be in the category with the Genesis size wise and you can get for a pretty nice price, esp with the holiday sales events going on plus their leasing offers. A bit lower on power but the MPG makes up for it!
Audi (A6 or A7) would also be a nice car that your dad might like. I'm not to familiar with the MSRP and leasing deals, but I'm sure it might be worth shopping around and checking it out.
Infiniti M -> Very well made and equipped, plus you can find them for great deals since they don't too many of them!
If you've done this already with your dad, my apologies! Since there isn't much info on the cars listed (Like XJ Portfolio trim or regular trim or LS with what upgrade package, etc) it's really hard to compare them.
Of a generally well equipped car, I'd pick the Lexus since it's reliable and proven itself already and it's on the table again. Otherwise I'm not sure since there isn't much info on the XJ and the Genesis is pretty much self explanatory.

On the other point you made, both the LS460 and XJ have pretty much the same options. One thing that stands out with the Genesis is the adaptive cruise control option. The LS and XJ dont have it and to add it it would cost nearly $10000 more because its bundled with other options.

With the cars listed, why not look at the Hyundai Equis.
Having said that my dad has 100k miles on his 2010 Genesis and hasnt had a single issue, creek or rattle. Only things he has stuck into it is tires and oil changes.

Thanks for your reply. I did mention the other options you listed and he is somewhat interested in the BMW but he had reliabilty issues with one in the past so he is a bit hesitant.

The best thing to do is talk to your hyundai dealer and ask if they have a used one that you could test drive one for 2-3 days to see how you like it in everyday driving before you sign the paperwork on a new one. BMW did it for me but with a 750 and it really opened my eyes to what the car had to offer and didn't over an S class/A8 that I was cross shopping.
Active Cruise is amazing and the "semi collision" warning is also good! I love it on my 760.
Say what you want about the Genesis, but if he's driving a Lexus, stick with a Lexus, not a Hyundai. And as for the Jag, they are pretty unreliable, I'd stay away from it. What about BMW/MB/Audi?

Looking at the different vehicles listed and the prices you have given doesn't sound like cheaper is really in the equation so why even have the Hyundai listed? Or maybe the question should be what about the Hyundai kept it in the poll versus the competion listed?
Love the design of the new lexus, Thought they were only going to go aggressive with the GS in terms of styling, but I'm happy to see it carried over to the ES and LS. Love the grill/front end design.
I'd go new LS.
I'd go new LS.
I vote for the new M5! Absolutely stunning! Best looking M5 since the 00-03 years! But from those options, I would stick with the Lex! Love the front end, just not the rear! Jaqs and Germans all have reliability issues!
