Decision Had Been Made

Last couple weeks the girlfriend and I have been tossing the idea back and fourth between the GTO and Mustang GT 3v.

Last year about this time I regrettably sold my 2010 VW GTI DSG Stage 2. Car was an absolutely monster for 350hp and 2800lbs.

Needless to say I hurt many V8 prides with that car...
This is my old GTI:

Tonight we made the decision to go back to the dark side and get another GTI. She's never had one nor driven one so she's a bit skeptical but I reassured her once she rode in it she'll fall in love with it..

The plan this time is to pretty much go the same route, DSG, Stage 2, Peeler wheels, Audi R8 ignition coils, APR CAI, Full 3in straight pipe exhaust, lowered suspension, DSG tune, then lastly some sticky tires to help plant all that power to the ground. My biggest issue before was traction. On the track it would literally spin the tires halfway down the track.

So stoked I cannot wait our deadline is the 30th of July to obtain the perfect GTI.

That's awesome...
you sure she's cool with a 3" straight piped exhaust? you guys share it for daily driving?

Gonna be a beast...predatorbird on here was stage 3, pretty sure...but the costs to keep it happy got the best of him and he went Focus ST instead. Might want to ping him to get his input on the switch...I know he was SUPER happy with the Ford not killing his warranty and how much cheaper everything was to make it fast.

She loves fast & loud cars, she's a huge gearhead like myself so I know she'll love it! The moment she hears that turbo spool she'll be sold

That was our plan but was going to end up costing us to much. Best bang for buck GTI is the way to go, Mustang is a great car don't get me wrong but I can buy this GTI for about 3-5 grand less and use that extra cash to upgrade the turbo, FMIC, and everything else I listed above

Yes indeed, but I was 70% joking, 30% serious

Have you considered an R32? Those have AWD, do they not? You wouldn't have to worry about spinning your tires all the way down the track then. Not at the power levels you're looking for anyway.

Yeah, unless it's the latest generation GTI, I wouldn't mess with it. I recommended a MK5 and MK6 GTI to several of my personal friends. Every single one of them had to sell the car early since it was giving them so many problems. Stay away from it.

It's not the dark side, it's the CEL side.

Never actually had that problem until I went straight pipe, but that only lasted a couple days until I got tuned then that went away, never saw the light again

The only issue I ever had with my MK6 was my mech unit for the DSG, went out. Sent it to VW had it fixed for $1200 and after that car never had mechanical issues. Also had 136k miles on it too. I loved my MK6.

It was never a mechanical issue for them. 100% electronics that the dealers never could find what it is.

Again never had any other issues. No mechanical issues, no electrical issues. None whatsoever.

In fact here's a video to prove there were no issues...

Along with a couple track clips from roasting the tires halfway down the track..
and from a different angle.

Im looking forward to when you find one and start modding. I've always like that body style. I'm just too scared to buy any German car

Modding them is loads of fun and there's no sarcasm there, A simple tune on these cars will wake them up and piss them off. With my tune I was pushing about 25lbs of boost, that dual clutch transmission is amazing and so much fun, when you're straight pipe and you shift under WOT it's like a gun shot going off with a light show every time.
So much fun.

So, you posted a thread saying you bought a car...and it turns out you never bought that car.

And now, you're posting another thread with an intention to buy another car, but you haven't bought one or even located one to buy yet.

Got it.

Never said anything about a car I had "bought"
This post is merely about the start of my process of buying another mk6.

In fact my other post was about me making the ATTEMPT to purchase the Mustang. Which never happened because I backed out.

"in the process of", combined with the particular year (instead of a range or generation) and pictures of what appear to be a singular example l is enough evidence to reasonably believe you had already bought a red 2007 Mustang GT.

But GTIs are cool cars too, and it seems like if you get one you'll know what you're getting into. GLWS.

Finding the exact one I want. I'm after a Carbon Steel Gray Metallic/DSG/2dr/Autobahn leather interior. That's harder to find than most would think lol

I know the DSG is great...and shifts faster than a person.
But curious why you wouldn't look for a manual, since you seem like someone that is big on the driving experience.

Sounds like Jonesey wants to be as fast as possible. He posted some videos at the drag strip... There's no denying the DSG is faster than a manual.

"I wanna go fast"

Yes and those videos I was spinning the tires halfway down the track! I never could get any kind of traction out at that track.
I intend to break 390hp, I'll need to upgrade to a slightly bigger turbo which won't run me much. In all actuality about $2500 and 390hp would be easily achieved. 390hp in a 2800lbs GTI would be absolutely killer. Even with me running the stock turbo before it was a monster but I want to go the extra mile this time

And yes DSG is definitely faster than a manual there is no arguing with that, it's so much fun. In all honesty I have just as much fun with a DSG than I do with a manual and that's saying something!

Manual is fun no doubt but when you put both side by side I'd much rather be using the paddles on the steering wheel, whether I'm carving corners or taking it down the strip the DSG will benefit me in both situations, plus when using a DSG you're maintaining boost between gears where as with manual you have to build that boost back up

I can't wait to see this build come to fruition! I'm a huge fan of GTIs even though I've never actually owned one. It's pretty incredible what people ring out of the 2.0. All the best luck with your search.

I just realized you're 24 and a time when a "standard" transmission was probably before your time slightly.

I don't doubt that you have fun going fast and it's easier to do DSG (even with faster shifting) but you'll never convince me that for a true car enthusiast, there's anything better than manually changing gears with your right hand and using your left leg for the man pedal.

Most of my cars have been standards, when it comes to the GTI the DSG is the way to go. However if it's any other car like a Mustang for example I will ALWAYS get a standard. Only time I'll pick a something over a standard is when it's a DSG GTI, or unless I have no other choice like my RL for example. Otherwise I'll always get the standard.

That's interesting, man...
most new cars are not enticing to me BECAUSE they don't offer a manual transmission. Aside from the fact that you'll probably only ever have to change a clutch and not a tranny...

I just love it, no matter what car.

Kinda like that skit that said...oh yada yada...yeah that's cool...now imagine that shit on WEED, MAN (IIRC Chappelle)...
whenever I see a really cool car and then realize it's automatic I do that same voice in my head but swap out weed for manual (, man).

Anyway, my cousin has a 2012 GTI, but he's not done anything to it...he loves it though drives really solid and yes, it's manual. It even says it in the name now that I spell it out. MAN ual. Or M ANAL or something. I'm bad at spelling and Geography (like, triangle angles and stuff).

Jones, you ignored my question from before- why not an R32? The AWD seems like it would be exactly what you need for getting the power down. Just too expensive?
