After about a month and a half of frequenting the Infiniti dealership, doing my homework and making sure the numbers were within budget I decided not to get a G37 coupe.

I finally test drove it yesterday and it is a very nice ride, but I think I'll pass for now. I love saving money and am not the car freak I once was. Anyway, I'll wait another year and reassess...

 

Was it the car itself or personal/finacial reasons? I ask since if it is the former I'd like to know where the car came up short.

 

oh man, i'm sure you pissed off a couple sales reps by now. i know, i sold caddys for a bit. saving money is prob the smart thing with the current state of the economy

 

neither. I think it was a "values" thing. My CLs still looks and runs great and I just could'nt justify the car payment right now. I guess I'll have to wait uptil the CL gets raggedy.

 

naa. I was working with one, and I didn't spend a lot of time with him. In fact, the most time I ever spent with him was on the test drive yesterday.

 

while it's always cool to see people buying new cars and looking at new car pics, i commend you for wanting to rather save money and continue to drive your current car.

it's always tough when our emotions get the better of ourselves....especially when it's a large purchase like a car.

That's kinda where I'm at too... The CL is paid off, still looks good, and there's nothing out there right now that I feel passionate enough about to make want to get back into payments...

If the CL had tons of miles on it, and was needing repairs often, it would be another story...

You have more will power than I do. I just came to terms with myself that I will always have a car payment. Im ok with that since I think of it as a price to pay for entertainment.

As soon as i paid off the Audi i was itching for another car. I really should look into leasing next time.

 

I'd avoid leases except for business purposes.
I hadn't had a car payment for many years. I didn't need a new car at the time and struggled with the concept of getting one, but business reasons won out and I leased my current car.
Now I'm thinking of buying the car off the lease since I like it and don't need a newer one... unless my accountant tells me otherwise.

I love not having a car payment and plus with a new car your insurance would go up as well.

Why's that?

 

It's less expensive to buy a car and run it for years than to lease unless part of the lease cost can be deducted-- I don't have the "new car" jones every 3-5 years, either.
I think that's what OP was weighing (cost v. desire) before deciding cost>desire.

 

Gotcha. I agree leasing is for those with car ADD such as myself who swap out every 2/3 years.

I've had my CL for 5 1/2 years, so I'm a classic buyer...

Different strokes for different folks...

If I had a business, I'd be leasing and writing off the car on my taxes like Will...

 

They are starting to pop up at the dealers, and folks have started to take delivery...

I'll probably test drive one eventually, but I'm going to wait till the hoopla dies down...

My newest love is the hyundai genesis coupe (it should be cheap, just like me)
