The Death of a Legend...?

I have a 1995 Acura Legend LS Sedan that has seen its better days. I recently bought a '07 RL in order to reliably get back and forth through a 50 mi. daily commute.

I don't know what to do with the Legend now and need some suggestions, preferably from avid Legend lovers.

The car needs about $1000 dollars worth of work that I know about, and that honestly will get it running smoothly. It has almost 190K miles and the interior is in great condition for being 16 yrs old. The exterior has no major blemishes (big dents), but it does look like it's spent some time in the Texas sun for the last 16 yrs.

What would you do?

Sell it for whatever you can get, and just say as is?
Look for someone wanting to restore it? I know there are some huge Legend Fans out there.
Chop it up and sell it for parts? There are plenty of parts on the car that aren't damaged or worn for me to think this is a possible solution.
Take it to Carmax? I heard they buy any car even if you're not trading.

I've never had to sell a car, so I don't know.

Sell it.

Restore it? It's not a classic. It's a 95 Legend.

Similar situation with my TL. Very close to 200k, soon things will break and the exterior could use a visit to the paint shop. My wife drives it, she'll soon have a restored Mini. I might just sell it in the next year.

I don't intend this to sound overly simplistic, but what do YOU want to do with it? It's at a point where there isn't much monetary value, but it may have some sort of emotional attachment. If you'd like to see it continue on, then perhaps either sell it to someone else or fix it up and use it as a spare. If you have no attachment to it, then maybe donating it to a charitable foundation would be appropriate.

Maybe post it for sale on Acura-Legend.com. If the interior and exterior are alright, there's a decent chance you'll get more there than selling it to someone who isn't really interested in restoring it but rather using it for a beater car.

$1000 isn't that much if you intend to keep it. There's someone here with 436k miles on their Legend.

If you're not going to keep it, then I'd probably sell as-is.

If I could choose, I would keep it and fix it back up to use as a commuter. Unfortunately, I don't have the means (space, time, and money) to do that realistically. I have tried Acura-Legend.com, but I had trouble registering to post a thread. I figured I would get some ideas here. I know the engine could run another 100K with some minor fixes.

Here are its problems:
1) It needs a good cleaning of the intake manifold and egr pipe. That may clear the check engine light, but there may be other problems with the vacuum systems that would keep it on.
2) When the engine is cold and idles, it can't keep a steady rpm and revs between 1000 and 1500 rpms until it warms up.
3) It occasionally doesn't start on the first few tries; it just clicks once when you turn the key. It will go weeks without doing it, but has gotten worse over the past two years. Something between the ingition and the starter is lose or just beginning to fail.
4) In the spring, I had the outside of the engine completely cleaned and a valve gasket cover replaced to fix an oil leak, but the leak is still there.
5) It needs new tires.

There are obviously other things that will come up, but I have replaced A LOT of parts already, so the list maybe shorter.

Since most of the first answers are "sell it as is", has anyone ever done this or have good advice?

2) Idle Air Valve ?

3) Ignition relay? These seem to go out on mid 90's Acuras with V6's

Any car should be sold "as is". List it in the paper or Craigslist with a few short details. Mention that it needs work. Offer for an attractive price and you'll probably get a few bites. When the car sells, make sure you write: "Car sold in 'as is' condition. Absolutely no guarantees or warrantees expressed or implied".

Dump it before it starts to develop the infamous Acura Legend blown head gasket. It's an expensive fix if you can't do it yourself.

Put a C35 (RL motor) in it. No blown headgasket issues, more torque.
