So I tried to pint my faded steering wheel emblem. I ended up bubbling the paint then having an emergency trying to strip the paint off, nearly ruining my whole steering wheel.

I want to make my emblem not look horrible, but now I'm too scared to try again. Advice?

Any reason you didn't just try some sort of polish or even an APC?

 

It's not metal. It's white plastic that was painted chrome. The chrome finish has worn off and this milky, semi-transparent plastic is what I see now.

 

How about trying some paint on it?

 

Tape the emblem and use some silver plastidip. It's a lot easier to put on and won't melt anything. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the plastic instead of paint thiner. Scuff it up also to help adhesion.
