Dealership stiffed me on a check!
Just a rant...but maybe some advice needed here, yall...
Lexus of North Miami took me out of my lease...they signed a form that said they would cut me a check for roughly two months of lease pmts (the difference between their offer and my payout). They initially refused to wire the money, and said the check would take a few business days to arrive.
Well, I dropped off my car two and a half weeks ago. Still no check.
I followed up with the salesperson during the first week, and he said, any day, any day....well, now, he wont pick up my calls, or call me back as promised. Looks like I need to make a scene and go back to the dealership tomorrow. Dealership account and billing department says I must go through the salesman. This is ridiculous. (and yes, they already sold my car, as its no longer being listed on their website).
Is there more going on behind the scene that I am not privy to? Is this check basically coming out of the salesman's commission, which is why he is delaying??

Go to the dealership bring the paperwork that states they owe you $700. Tell them you need your check, talk to your salesperson first, if you're not getting anywhere ask to speak with the GM and tell him/her the deal was done weeks ago and you were promised the check within a week or so.

^ it's not a priority to them period. Some salespeople/manager will submit a check request to the business office, when the business office pays their bills (electric, phone, etc) that's when the a/r a/p person issues a check and wait for the two dealership check signers to actually sign it. Because of having to coordinate it, they will literally take weeks.
Other dealers can have a check to you the same day or next business day if the business office people are there, they'll cut a check explain what it is and the check signers sign off on it.
Everyone does it a little different. When I was working as a consultant for these dealers they'd lag on anything and everything under the sun. I love cars, but don't miss the "business."
Just emphasize you are leaving for NYC soon and you want the check in hand, do not allow them to mail it to you as that is just going to cause them to but you on the back burner even more.
Good luck.

I found that making a scene in front of potential customers helps a great deal.
Case and Point: We purchased a vehicle from a dealership in Long Island. She and I did everything that was asked of us so all we needed to do when we arrive at the dealership is finance it and sign all the paperwork. We got there at 8:30am, a half hour earlier than the dealership opened. They saw us outside and let us in. Oh yeah, it was a huge weekend for them - BIG SALE. Needless to say we spent 8.5 hours in the dealership. It was a calamity of mistakes and bungles.
We were never offered anything like a bottle of water or any snacks. We watched many people come in buy a car and leave before we did.
Finally lost my cool, was screaming excessively loud how we spent a ridiculous amount of time in the place when everything was taken care of prior to our arrival. Let everyone in the dealership know that I was very unhappy and they shouldn't buy a car from this place.
Saw three couples leave the dealership and not come back. It was after the third one left we were gathered and taken into the manager's office. I was screaming at him with no mercy! He left the room for a couple of minutes and gave my wife the following: $500 credit to her first monthly payment, free oil changes for 4 years and an 3yr extended warranty.
After I heard all of that, I was happy that I blew up!!!!!!!
The last thing they want is to see customers walk out the door during a busy sale day!

Yep. Typical stealership BS. Call SP and tell him politely that the transaction is incomplete. Ask him to send you a check. Wait another week and a half. If you have not received a check for the balance, then call the SM, F&I, GM, etc. until they give you the check in hand. In most situations like this the other party has 30 days. Until that month has passed, you have little recourse.

If it's in the paperwork, then you are golden.
Just walk in, go to the finance dept., and show them the paperwork that state $$$ is due to you.
If you don't have it in writing....well, you might be screwed.

You waited until 8.5 hours passed before you got upset?!?!
2.5 hours max...start to drive-off ....anything beyond that and one should walk.

waited at lexus for 3 hours yesterday. i was deathly ill---they were taking so long, that i left to go to a doctors appointment, then returned to the dealership. said to GM, "listen, i was just diagnosed with the flu 30 minutes ago. and i still came back to the dealership because you promised you would work out the details. i am not leaving here until i have a check, and im sure you dont want me hanging around your staff right now" the staff was extremely ticked off.
...they did some more digging, and said the check was mailed out yesterday. so guess we will see in the following days.

Fuuuuckin' stealership!!! Checks in the mail? Are you serious?
Please update us when you get the check. If not, I'll be happy to post my thoughts on the dealers FB page.

he said the delay was due to the change of title from Lexus Financial (car was a lease) to dealership. which makes perfect sense. I went through the same thing when I had to change titles from NY to FL after I leased it.
only the GM was able to help me. i said, if i do not have this check by Friday, I am fucked, because I am changing addresses from FL to NY, and I do not feel like chasing down a check.
He hopped on a few phone calls. Eventually got a hold of billing. Took billing an hour or so to process this request. GM told me that SHE (billing) said that the check was mailed out on Monday. Still have not received it, which isnt a surprise with Miami mailing.
If I do not receive it by 4pm Friday, then back to the dealership I go. (Technically will be in town here and there for the next week, but still).
THIS COMPLICATION IS NOT ENABLING ME TO FORWARD MY MAILING ADDRESS. Terribly annoying.

You go back and there and demand a check. You dont leave until you have one.
If they really did mail a check, then they eat the money to cancel it.
Either way you arent leaving with one...and play up the flu...coughing and hacking without covering your face...

Three Wheelin'
I would go on a Saturday afternoon when they have the most amount of customers in the showroom, and make a scene and demand the check. If they said they already sent it out, tell them to put a stop payment on the old one and cut you a new one. Tell them you're not leaving til you have a check in hand. Yell, scream, make a scene, do whatever you have to do to scare customers away.

the used car dept JUST received title, and was able to write/cut the check. salesman dicked around so long, that the clock ran past 5:00 pm and the used lot building shutdown. he said i could intercept the check on saturday morning, while it is in transit, or i can wait to pick up the check on monday. i told them to HOLD IT, and i will pick it up. HAVE IT IN WRITING "will have check monday 7/30/12, will hold it". unfortunately, i wont be able to go back to the dealership until friday, but at least i know ill be getting it.
also got lexus financial on the phone -- they sent out title to the dealership on the 20th, so they must have just received title, hence the delay in writing a check.

Am I reading this right? They expect op to trust them, BUT they don't trust Lexus???????
Sounds like they have a sweet process to play the float on god knows how many 700-xxxxxxx checks and are f00king around with other peoples money.
I'd be really really pissed.
