De/Re-Badging Mercedes
De/Re-Badging Mercedes
I guess a vanilla Mercedes is all too common around here now, so people are de/re-badging them. On my commute this morning, I saw 3 Mercedes with badging that wasn't standard. One looked like a C230 which was rebadged with "Brabus" Okay, they're a tuner, so it's understandable - even though the car looked worse than stock. One of them looked like a modified and/or tuned SLK, but only displayed "K70" on its rear. One of them was a larger S-Class sedan which displayed S4037 on the trunk. Now, I'm no MB expert, but I've never heard of such a vehicle being produced.
Anyone else running across similarly de/re-badged former "status" cars?

I was at the Acura dealer yesterday looking to recon a rear bumper A-Spec add-on to see if I want to get one. I found one on a silver TL that had the whole A-Spec pkg and, right next to the "TL" on the right of the trunk lid, it had a "Type S" badge. It looked almost like it was supposed to be there.

Ive seen alot of chumps that have S430s and de-badge it so people wont know they are too cheap to buy an S500. Also have seen countless non-AMG Benzes with AMG badging. Also seen a CL500 with CL65 AMG badges. Mercedes badges are a dime-a-dozen on Ebay.
There are three reasons to Debadge or Rebadge:
-you like the clean look without the logos
-you are ashamed that you bought the cheaper edition of a model and dont want people to know so you take off your badges.
-you bought the cheaper version of a model, and you want people to think you have the higher-end model by putting on higher-end badges.
At the Mercedes dealer in town, they had a Black SL65 AMG, and it was totally debadged...now thats class.

You would have to do a little more that slap an M badge on to make people think it was a M#3.

Yeah, like how BMW offers the performance package, which include M emblems on the car, but not on the back.
