Dan Neil reviews the RL

A great review of the RL by the best car writer out there. The lede:

I was an audiophile in college. Incorrigible, really. I shouldn't have been allowed within 100 yards of an audio.

It gets better from there:

Good find.

Even with ordinary CDs the system's processors helpfully divvy up the two stereo channels into a fairly convincing surround-sound experience, using what Bose calls its Centerpoint processing. The lowest frequencies are parsed from the other channels and pumped through the woofers.
...stop the presses, BOSE engineers (oh wait..they don't have those. Marketeers then) have invented the "crossover".

I wish Honda would go with another audio company. Bose is such a joke.

It looks like SACD is winning the multichannel disc format war. Any chance next year's RL will be able to read multichannel SACDs too?

I just can't take anyone too seriously when 3/4 of the article is spent on the stereo system and the rest of it is a rehash of Acura marketing materials. Where did that 0-60 in 6s come from?

you know I was thinking the same exact thing! I did not want to say anything thinking people might get on me because I insulted one of "the best automotive journalists in the world". This review has come out WAY to late and all it seems like is a marketing ploy for Bose Engineering and a reworded C&D review. And I was thinking the same thing about 6 seconds, although that'd be great (Come to think of it, I believe C&D estimated 6 for an MT RL a while back).

I only wish. I have an SACD player at home and absolutely love it!

Meh, if I want specs I'll ask you guys. But he sure is a stylish writer. Check out some of his other stuff:

I think he's lived up to that Pulitzer he got last year, don't you?

I think style and substance are mutually exclusive in this case. I saw this article when I was googling for Acura news and didn't feel it was worthy to share for the very same reason that biker points out...it's a review of the stereo system, not the car.

Still, it's a well written article. No arguing with that.
