Coupe with back seat

My brother in law is looking for a coupe. No FRS/BRZ.

Manual trans a must.

He has been looking at 2013+ Accord V6 . However he is a little scared of the oil consumption issues the motors have been having.

He has also found a few RSX-S. Two of them are one owner, non modded cars.

Back seat is a must, as 2 days a week he takes kid to day care.

Any opinions from owners on V6 Accord coupe or RSX-S?

I have owned DA Integra GS-R which was fantastic, but no other Honda coupe since.

I know lots of ex RSX owners, and maybe some Accord Coupe owners here?

Appreciate any input you guys can provide.

(He isn't a car person. Not looking to mod. Drive 10K miles a year and have dealer service it, kind of a guy).

Brodog at work has a RSX-S as a daily driver. Pretty sure he has 2 kids, high school age now, but must have been elementary age when he got it. No complaints from him regarding space.

Did a track day with him and I was blown away at how much that car liked to run. I didn't think it would be as fast as it was, but I got humbled by it.

Not sure how it would fare with two carseats though. That said, anything is possible if one is motivated. Tossing two kids in carseats in a coupe is not going to be fun, but if "coupe" is the priority, then a midsize like the RSX or Accord would be the way to go.

EDIT: Oh, and I guess to add, we had (have) a '03 Accord Coupe. And that's the reason I'm driving a wagon now is that we didn't want to dick around with schlepping kids in and out through the folded passenger seat. So FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of coupes and non-self-sufficient kids. Plus, wagon.

My sister has a Land Cruiser, and he has a 4 door office car. He wants a Coupe to have some fun in, which can take kids in an emergency

Of course the RSX is a lot older, he just found a couple and asked me, and I have no clue on Accord V6 Coupe vs RSX-S coupe.

Appreciate the help

CL-S6! Very reliable, nice power, decent back seat, nice size trunk. Mine is supercharged with two car seats in the back lol.

Ok.

He should look at the new Camaro and Mustang as well as a used 328i. If he doesn't mind something older the CLS6 is bulletproof.

2013+ V6 Accord's (i.e. 9th gens) don't have oil consumption problems. Early 8th gens did though.

Was going to be my suggestion. Would car seats need to be put in? I've been in the back of a couple Q60's and while it was pretty snug for me, for kids it would probably be fine. 6MT is RWD only by the way on them.

I'm thinking that "box" isn't 996-sized when he's looking at Hondas (though I do like the way you think beanie)

I haven't been in a G37, but I have driven a G37 Vert. Car seats won't work in the vert, due to the hip room.

Coupe might be better. THanks

Correct. He's essentially looking for a fun coupe, that is reliable, and won't break the bank.

RSX is not midsize. It's the equivalent of a civic coupe. Actually, up until the RSX came out, the Integra was always slightly more cramped inside than a Civic coupe. Not sure if that changed when the RSX came out, but I doubt it would.

Either way, he's gonna hate his life with two car seats in that thing. What a pain.

The Accord coupe is a much bigger car. I suggest that over the RSX. Especially if he gets the V6. Plenty of power, creature comforts and room.

Really?

Hmm. It seems so much bigger. Guess I over-estimated.

That was the first thing I thought of. But if this guy is skeptical about Accord V6 6MT reliability, he'll probably head for the hills when he reads about the IMS bearing. Yah I know it's a small percentage.

I traded away my 06 Si coupe when we found out we were expecting. Sat 5 mid-sized adults for road trips with no problems. Fun little car that'll run forever with basic maintenance, but with any torque-less wonder, the car dragged when there was more than 1 person in the car or if the AC was turned on.

OP mentioned he wanted a coupe to have fun in and occasionally carry kids.

Mustang and Camaro do exactly that.

2011+ 5.0. Dirt cheap, parts are abundant, fairly reliable, quick enough stock, usable backseats and there's a Ford dealer around every corner for maintenance.

Sooo... then a 996 . Buy one with the IMS/RMS retro-fit already done and you're golden. Will last forever with regular maintenance. Wouldn't take to the dealer for an oil change, but any local Porsche or German mechanic can do that relatively inexpensively. Or he can man up and do the oil change in his garage/driveway

Now, if you mean won't break the bank as in under $10k or so... then no, that won't work. But the 996's are a steal right now and there are a lot of good ones to be had...

Otherwise my vote would be Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger...

So why hasn't someone suggested a BMW 335i or 328i coupe?
AFAIK, manual transmissions were available for them. However, the 3-series coupe interiors prior to the current generation were pretty compact, but larger than the RSX.

Does it need to be fuel efficient?

If not: Pontiac GTO.. The seats are comfy (even the rear seats) and LS1 FTW.
